On one hand it's great news that the 3 door is coming to Australia, and that the options price is out!

But I don't want to put my name down for an order of a 3 door without knowing it's price!

Bloody hell, it's great news! But I still don't know if it's worth stopping my GTI order for the R.

Look at the end of the day, people were making orders on this cars from last year. As i said, if you prefer to get car quicker you will place an order on the car subject to pricing. In end of may, beginning of June VW Aus will release pricing to us.

Guys. I just thought I'd add that I received a personal email from Karl Gehling. It's probably just a standard script like the last one, but the body of it reads

Hi Corey,

We have just advised our dealers today that we will be offering the 3-door Golf R. This decision has been taken following the remarkable feedback we have received since the announcement of the 5-door only strategy. If you are still interested in purchasing the Golf R 3-door I recommend you contact your dealer asap to ensure you secure a vehicle, they will only be available based on dealers orders.

Thanks for your persistence and we hope you are able to secure yourself a vehicle.

What's the theory behind not releasing the price? Does VWA keep it a secret for a particular reason or has it not been confirmed?

Once this initial allocation of Golf R 3 door vehicles is exhausted, the 3 door model will be available as a specific Dealer forward order, there are no further 3 door market introduction vehicles in the pipeline.

Hi Serge, thanks for providing us with this information. Can I just confirm a few things about this quote.

'Dealer forward order'. Does this mean a factory order with the usual 3 to 6 months wait?

'3 door market introduction vehicles in the pipeline', does this mean no Scirocco? Or no new Polo GTI in 3door and possible no Golf 7 in 3 door etc?

Good to see Karl still remembers you Corey... Yeh, I recon there would have been a rather large amount of those emails going out...

With the pricing, not too sure about the theory but from what has been observed, it's been general practice for VW, always have released pricing just before official release.

Well at least now you know its not Aprils 1st joke.

Vw Aus always does it with the pricing. same thing happened with Golf GTI 6, we didnt know pricing until 2 weeks prior to realease date.
i think VW Aus, still negotiating with Germany about Pricing structure. I will not be very surpriced that price will be identical to R32

Chances are VWA don't know what it is yet. I doubt they're keeping secrets. Its not easy to ascertain the financial impact of bringing a new model into a new country. There would be all sorts of budgetary and forecasting projections that would need to be considered and weighed up.

My guess would be that they haven't released pricing yet because they want to get it 100% right. I think it would be a nightmare if they gave any indication of price and set expectations, but then realised that they'd made a mistake with a figure in a spreadsheet... or over estimated or underestimated demand.

In fact, the response and orders they receive before June may even assist in determining the price..

no worries at all. Dealer forward order is 3-6 month factory order. Scirocco will not be coming to aus becuase it will destroy market for Golf GTi and Golf R. Polo Gti will be coming out in 5 door DSG and Manual only (that the info we have at the moment). Golf 7 maybe another 3-5 years
