Golf R 3 door/5 door speculation/information thread
5 Door GTD - is completely different market from GTIs and 5 door is perfect for family 'quickish' diesel
R on the other hand should be 3 door standard with 5 door 'maybe' option
See, that would be my train of thought too. It also seems to be the general thought of these things in Europe, with 3 door GTI's and R32/R's being very popular if not the majority of sales. But Australia seems to take the American 'more is better' mentality on things
Just to rehash sentiments from a few pages back re French cars as an alternative within the requirements of "hot hatch" AND 3 door:
quoting mark webber from article in today's tele: "it's probably the best hot hatch out there, F1 drivers are obsessed by two things: power and brakes. The Renault has spot-on braking"
he has a megane renaultsport 250 and a Clio
yes- the fact that red bull run with Renault engines probably contributes to his garage choice... But hey- he also has a Nissan and a BMW x5 .. And a 911
anyway- just thought I'd share.

any one got ANY ideas whn we gone get prices? Im really considering changing my order from GTI to R
I've heard that it could be as easly as next week.
Either way. We already know the options. We already know DSG adds $2500. We already know how LCT, Stamp duty etc figure into this. So what we're waiting on is the base price of the 5 door manual.
Based on reports it could be as little as $10k more than the GTI i.e. $50,490, to the R32 price adjusted for the changes in options. i.e. $54,730
I came to that by
56,990 R32
-4,390 (Leather inc LCT)
+530 (Tint inch LCT)
+1600 ($1200 for front/rear PDC inc LCT)
I was talking to dealer the other day. Already has pre-sold 3-4 R's. Indicated driveaway price on all of them would be well above 60k.
No idea on whether they were optioned etc. He said RRP was "around 57k" but the official pricing from VWA still TBA.

They don't know anything about base pricing so what he said didn't mean much at all.
What they do know?
- Base specification for 5dr in manual or DSG
- Available options and prices
- Available colours
Anything they talk about regarding a 3 door or base pricing is either assumptions or they know something that hasn't been communicated to all VW dealers as yet.
Here are some more pictures of the 5 door model. But I cant tell if they are the standard 18" Rims or the optional 19" ones?
The owners of the white and blue ones are on the UK forums as I've seen posts with those photos with reviews from the owners before. Pretty sure it was this one I saw them on. www.rforum.co.uk/index.php

As Dave- and many others have said - the dealers haven't had the base price communicated to them yet. Around $57k is not very likely considering the 'Australia perception' of the 'downgrade' from a 3.2L v6 to a 2L 4 cylinder, and the fact that at least $4380 of value has been removed from the car due to the removal of leather (ok, so leather is only $3300, but it will COST YOU $4380 to put it back due to LCT).
