That mk4 of yours is a beauty, sure you'll get the right person after a whlie.
no rush .. no rush! keep or sell it either way whatever happens!

looking at a few new cars recently, R20, S3, R36 or MK6 GTI .. undecided! (waiting on r20 still that is to make a decision)

Another issue brought up with an R32 owning friend is that younger ricers tailgate him or drive along side trying to incite a drag race. After a while, the novelty of the attention wears off, and he is looking for perhaps an understated Audi (5dr hatch) to prevent this sort of thing happening on a regular basis. Every man in his EVO or STI will be looking for reassurance against an R owner.
I hadn't thought of it that way but with things like auto door locking over 15km/h is a good feature to enable, not sure if it would help 100% of the time.

Like you i also like the understated look of VAG cars, shame it costs a fortune to buy and mod them. You do attract a fair bit of bad attention in Jap cars though. I'd probably debadge an RS6 if i had one

Good explanation on the ACC too, cheers.

      • Plenty of engine noises in this roadtest to get a taste.

Definitely no substitute for a VR6 though.

PM if you are looking for: R32 rear sway bar; R32 suspension springs; Euro Headlight switches

        • Thanks everyone, some good discussion here, am considering an R so this thread has been helpful But I wonder if an R32 may be a less expensive option if there are dealers who want to offload any stock they have left? (just for the sound!)

The R32's are pretty much all gone, the ones at the dealers aren't being dicounted that much ($57 - 63k).

              • Plenty of ways to be carjacked. Take an older vehicle and bump you from behind. When details are to be exchanged, theif makes good with your car. Break & enters are another way, or follow you home as your parking your ride. Some of the top end vehicles like the Porsche SUV have glass that is almost smash proof. This was introduced primarily for the South American market where carjacking is widespread.

Found another review that indicates that 19" wheels with stock suspension has the Golf 'R' riding on the wrong side of firm. Article states that 18" with ACC may be the go. Those Taladaga wheels will be a beatch to clean imo.

The pics in this review are very good (click on images in the mid right section). Have a close look at the front and in particular, the rear seats. The centre of the rear seat, outer edges and bottom end cushion are covered in leather, as are the side arm rests and centre console armrest. Bassicaly, like the Mazda MPS3 Luxury with leather, the std Golf R appears to be up to half covered in leather in std form. Another point of interest is that on the Mark 6 GTI, the inside of the front two leather seats, next to the console are covered in cloth ... another cost cutting measure.

                Read on:

Edit: For some reason I can't access the advanced section to the post a pic of the rear seats that I saved. Any idea why?

                Cheers

Um, the MKV was that way too! Since the inside of the front two seats actually rubs against the centre console - I presume it was more of a feature to stop the seats leather from squeaking and rubbing against the console.

Do you actually verify anything you post, or just always make random comments?

From the Golf R Press release:
A key equipment option here is the newly designed "Top Sport seat system" with heated seats in front that have excellent ergonomic properties. The driver just sits down, adjusts the longitudinal and height positions of the seat, adjusts the steering wheel, buckles up, and is ready to go. The seat fits as though it were tailor-made. Here, the Golf R - together with the Golf GTI and Golf GTD - is setting standards among the international competition. The centre panels of the sport seats are upholstered in the honeycomb textured grey-black "Kyalami" design - named after the race course of the same name in South Africa; the front edge of the seat is upholstered in Titan Black fabric. The inside panels of the side supports are upholstered with crystal-grey "San Remo" micro-fibres. The rest of the seat components and the roofliner are coloured black. The new R-logo is embroidered in the front head restraints as well. Motorsport shell seats for driver and front passenger are also available as an option; they have integrated head restraints with embroidered R-logos. In this case, the centre seat panels are upholstered in the "San Remo" micro-fibre fabric. On the outside, the shell seats are upholstered with black leather.
It's not leather at all. It's microfibre!

That was only from MY08 (maybe MY07) onwards. Earlier models had leatherette there.

Try this, was it this one:

(looks to be part leather, part cloth. I'd prefer one or the other and wouldn't pay extra for that unless it was standard).

G-Rig - read my post on the previous page. From the official VW Press Release, it's black microfibre, not leather.

@Mav - aah - I didn't realise that it had changed during the MKV's life. The cloth would probably be better than leatherette there, especially on a 3dr if you were regularly moving the seats forward to let others in....

                            • Yeah - the photos just too small to see the texture diff between microfibre and leather. I must say that even after reading that it's microfibre, I'm convinced that the arm rest is still leather, but then I haven't noticed anything which states either way about it.

                              • Just remember too though, the trim here from overseas sometimes is different on the R's so you never know at the end of the day.

                                I like the R36's seats/trim, very nice!

I look forward to jumping in one in May (europe) .. bwhaha. lol had to rub that in. Trying to tee up a test drive whilst there as well if we havent already got a press car here by then.
