Who cares if they have been done or not. You don't actually see many on the streets it's all the internet pics and in the US etc. I have still only seen two Golfs in BNE with RS4 reps over the past year or two.

DPE and HRE are pretty expensive, you shouldnt spend more than 10% of the cars value on wheels :.

What did you have on your nice red MKIV? Hope you get your money back on the wheels.

I forget that your in BNE and you guys basically see fark all up there (seriously) .. In sydney you see a mk5 with ch's daily almost now! copies or genuine no matter these days you still see them. BBS lm's the same and so forth.

rs4 reps, dude i think 2/5 vag cars almost have these on in sydney honestly! i saw 4 alone today inc a customers as well!

Im sorry if you're not willing to "spend" money on your vehicle however people who like to mod/tune or waste money if you like to make their cars 'individual' tend to do these things. If you dont that is your choice dude.

before you try have a smart response on my wheels, a) i paid hell of a lot less then you would ever guess or from retail and were s/h, and b) i would get a new set for the sake of how GOOD the quality is alone minus how much i like their designs. from experience in working at wheel/tyre places and seeing issues/flaws with cheaper wheels i am very sceptical buying some reps! (however good reps are out there of course!)

but as the saying goes, all cars are a waste of money regardless of what you do. its a hobby/labour of love .. something we all enjoy!

          • Price aside ... the choice between the GTI -v- R would still be difficult.

I think the GTI looks better with the understated look, red stripe and polished with black inserts on the Detriot wheels (18"). Also favour lighter weight, better economy, newer EA888 tech motor of the MK6 GTI that has addressed the issues with the EA113 motor, the more simplistic driveline, and of course the XDS in the medium to faster corners.

The Golf R is certainly a step up in performance. Like the repsonsive higher compression motor, bigger turbo that pulls up to 6000rpm max power, bigger brakes, a chasis with greater balance front to rear and most importantly, AWD. XDS can never replace AWD, even if AWD is FWD come AWD when leaned on (unlike Audi RS models).

Once the R becomes known amost the greater community, I think it'd be the choice for carjacking theifs, possibly pushing up premiums as in the case of the WRX. Audi RS Wagons are a popular choice for car-jackers with room to put the booty in. Another issue brought up with an R32 owning friend is that younger ricers tailgate him or drive along side trying to incite a drag race. After a while, the novelty of the attention wears off, and he is looking for perhaps an understated Audi (5dr hatch) to prevent this sort of thing happening on a regular basis. Every man in his EVO or STI will be looking for reassurance against an R owner.

Bring pricing into it ... I think the brakes on the R are worth 1.5K and the AWD worth an additional 3.5K over my specced up GTI. Perhaps 5K which means 55K for a 5 door DSG Golf R.

Resale on the R will be higher, but this may be negated over time with extra servicing & possibly insurance costs in the longer term.

ACC to my understanding: Can be set to comfort. In normal it drops to comfort at lower speeds, normal at medium speeds and sport at faster speeds. It appears that the dampers may sense the driver inputs and roadway conditions and adjust accordingly ... but only when in normal mode. Still a bit obscure on the adjustability on the fly in normal mode. I reckon its worth the $1500 asking price. Audi charge $2400 for magnetic dampers on the A3 Sportback.

            Cheers.

            • Who cares about alloy wheel styles etc? That's all about looks... adds nothing to handling or performance. In most cases it ruins it with incorrect offsets and crap tyres.

                tight cars!

all im saying is think outside of the box (the usuals). its not about how much you spend, its about being different!

porsche, merc, bentley, raderwerks make some awesome wheels reasonably priced and great quality, jline, gmax

                    • Wasn't a smart response, obviously it's harder to stand out down in Sydney, plus a lot more VAG cars in Syd/Melb too.

Hey mate wasn't having a go at the wheels but know as a brand they aren't that cheap.

Not against modding just dont think you'll do yourself justice selling a moddded car. Typically you don't get as much as a stock one unless you get a young guy or enthousiast. May be a selling point may not, just the way it works as you put a lot of time/effort into it but that doesn't equate to resale unfortunately.

and to polos, its not all about looks. you can combine power and looks quite easily, some fail to do so on this part tho lol

I tend to agree, most people who put fully sick 19 or 20's on sacrifice weight, handling, opt for cheaper tyres because they are more expensive just for looks. Anyone can put big wheels on a crappy car, bit overdone IMO.

Bentley wheels on a Golf is a bit try hard.

True true, couldnt agree with you more. i never had any intentions of wanting to sell the car and know from the past that modding doesnt increase any value on any car at that! the car is for me, no one else .. i enjoy driving it moreso when NO one is around and the roads are quiet.. but sydney doesnt give you much of that chance unless early dark hours of the morning.

But regarding syd/melb, you do see HELL of a lot of VAG cars compared to BNE/Goldy. Im up there fairly often and last time was over a week and i honestly saw 5 r32's in that entire time and i did over 800kms driving around the place.. pretty suprised! I guess as its so spread out..

As isaid though, you dont have to spend the earth to make it look nice though. I think nicely lowered as you said and wheels does the car more then enough justice. 19's are as BIG enough as you want to go.. And id never do the bentleys, its the uniqueness of it but that again comes to everyones taste (ahem autosal-lebanon)

That mk4 of yours is a beauty, sure you'll get the right person after a whlie.
