I did some reading and from what I've come to understand is that the codebox will only work on vehicles with the single rear reverse light setup. I believe the US model Golf has dual reverse lights, so the codebox won't work on them. I stand to be corrected though...

AFAIK, there are several versions of the codebox available through TMTuning. At least one version is designed for US-market cars with two reverse lights and no rear fog.

However, the definitive answer on why the coding varies is because the Central Electrics module (and the version of the software that runs the module) is typically different for Australian-delivered cars to that of US-delivered cars, and therefore, the coding sequence required may differ. Remember that Central Electrics controls a lot more than just the tail lights, which goes some way to explaining why there are multiple versions for multiple markets. Some countries impose unusual legal requirements on vehicle lighting and other functions, which would need to be catered for by specific modules / software / configurations.

You'll be right! And if not, just get a local dubber with VCDS to code the car for you. Nothing easier.

I have a question regarding the Golf R's rear taillights (and GTI adidas too for that matter)

The Tail light as you know are made up of 2 pieces each side. Outer and Inner. Now, when its during the day and your headlights arent on and when u apply the brake, the OUTER tails light up to indicate you're braking. When you turn on your headlights or even your parkers (which only dims the LED's on the Golf R's but illuminates the interior), the INNER tails are activated as well as the outers. But again, when you apply the brakes, its only the OUTER tails that light up brighter.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible for the INNER tails to also light up in the exact same brightness as the OUTER tails when the brakes are applied? i.e can it be activated so that during the day (no headlights) when you press the brakes BOTH INNER and OUTER lights up, and at night (headlights on), both turn on as per normal but again, when pressing brakes, both tails light up?

Hey mate, I bought mine from the German VW dealer that Ozram has the contact details for. Give him a buzz.

As for the coding, I've done mine myself with VCDS. PM me when your tails arrive and I'll help you sort it. And what do you mean by regular GTI?

Just bought a set through Ozram's contact, so straightforward and much cheaper than all the other alternatives. Sadly no express postage though, i guess I'll have to learn about patience.

I noticed when reversing today in perfect sunshine that the tails were on (like the headlights were on) and only went off when I turned the vehicle off.

If this is not normal, does the recoding change this?

Mine are only on when the Xennons are on as far as I'm aware, might be a coding issue?

If the headlights were on, then the tails should have been on too. Unsure why your headlights would be on in bright sunshine though? Did you have the headlight selector in the A mode? Even after we fitted our R tails (before recoding was done, they weren't on unless headlights were on)
