So.. Am I getting R tails on my GTI, Sure am. He's ordered some for me from VW Germany and will fit them for me at the dealership. Yet to negotiate a price. Unfortunately free is not an option, as they are quite pricey and I already scored a large discount on my car.

Maybe a stupid question... but why does the dealer have to order them from Germany?

Surely, since they are now fitted on AUS delivered cars (R and Adidas), they would be able to be ordered through the dealers spare parts department. I imagine there are some kept in stock with VWA... heaven forbid if someone in one of these cars gets rear ended, they would need to be able to get the spare parts?

I was just intending to pop down to the spare parts dept. when my car arrives and find out how much they are (yes, I know I need the connecting kit and the VACOM changed!) and decide if it's worth ordering from VWA Spare Parts or from overseas?

Reading through this thread, it seems pretty clear that there are plenty of people out there who think LED tails look way better than standard tails. What I don't understand is why VGA has never made them an option on the GTI. Why not have them as part of the Bi-xenon option.

Because too many customers are complaining that there are already too many options...

If the new Passat is anything to go by, options may be starting to more towards being bundled into packages. For example, on the new Passat, if you want LED taillights, you need to get the "Driver Assistance and Visibility package" which has:
- Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering
- Lane Assist
- LED daytime running lights (in the headlight housing)
- LED tail lights
- Front fog lights with static cornering

I haven't seen a pricelist yet, so NFI how much it is, but I'd guestimate it's at least $3k

I received my Golf R LED tails this morning from Germany. Installation and coding took me around 20 minutes (thanks to all the effort everyone here has put in to this forum). Just fantastic, loving the renewed look of the car.

OK... the spare parts dept. quoted me $1,100 ish for the parts alone, and don't really want to install them (due to the coding)!

Guess I'm back to looking at the UK and German option.

I'm tempted to get the LED tail lights for my TSI but then I get to the part where I see the $700 price tag, and ask myself why I need them again? :p

Maybe in a few months I'll get them to "renew" the look as mentioned earlier.
