Mk6 LED Taillights

Now that I've had my LED's for a week, I've opened my boot and realised I've got my stock tail lighs dumped in there. What has everyone done with them? The lamps are quite large, not sure what to do with them. I doubt there is any resale value in them.

Interesting update today...

Received a call from my dealer late this afternoon. He called to apologise, as he has only recently discovered the GTI 11.5 will NOT have R Tails as a standard option. He was sincerley apologetic, and admitted he stuffed up with his info. He also Received confirmation of the MY12 updates - no more 3 door R (we all know this), Bluetooth and MDi to become standard on the Golf range.

So.. Am I getting R tails on my GTI, Sure am. He's ordered some for me from VW Germany and will fit them for me at the dealership. Yet to negotiate a price. Unfortunately free is not an option, as they are quite pricey and I already scored a large discount on my car.

Will keep you guys posted.

Whilst we've pretty much closed this issue already, I have an update from a friendly and reliable VW dealer.
He has just received a brand new GTI with the LED DRL Xenon headlights optioned. He has confirmed that the rear taillights, as we expected, are still the standard non-LED GTI lights. He did tell me though that the numberplate lighting are now LEDs. People have noted that VW now have a OEM LED numberplate lighting elsewhere on the forums.

It appears that these numberplate LEDs are only on cars optioned with the Bi-Xenon headlights. So maybe this is where the confusion of Mariani's salesman came from.

I just found this thanks to YT's recommendations, same colour as my car as a bonus

Perhaps it's just the video quality, but the luminesence does appear a lot better on the stock lights.

I think they are non-tinted LEDs which might look a bit better on shark blue

That video is a great example of how much quicker reacting the LED lights are. Whilst it might only be a 1/2 a second, that could make a difference in whether or not the person behind you runs into you during an emergency situation!

At least i wont have to do this myself as the LEDs to rear plates was on my list of things to do

Corey.. Interesting info. I actually read this the other day on some UK site however, we all know you cannot work off euro spec as it's so different to Aussie spec.

My rear LED's are the dealership awaiting for my car to arrive. Car is on the boat. Getting close now : )

I think it's something like 510 euros - don't quote me on that though.

Group buys are pointless my friend. A second set would immediately put you over the import threshold where you'll have to pay GST and customs/import duties etc. Cheaper to buy individually.

I'd budget on ordering at least four weeks before you need them. Ordering/payment/processing might take 3-10 days, and shipping could take anywhere from 1 - 3 weeks.

When you order from the dealer contact, make sure you explicitly specify that you want the adapter cables included - they are a separate part (part numbers available earlier in this thread).
