Mk6 LED Taillights

Hi guys and girls. Recently, i juz bought a golf r led in Singapore and i juz realized that they r led doesn't come with rear fog lamp. My question is, as to my knowledge, my soon coming gti in Perth will come with a rear fog lamp as standard so if I'm to retrofit these tail lamps to my car, which I've juz bought in S'pore (without fog lamp), will that cause an error to my car?

Technically speaking you will be fitting a light that will go against the Australian Design Rules (ADR). The only difference I can think of in the operation of the lights is that the rear fog will shine white, like a reverse light. This would be illegal.

If you were to visit an Autobarn store you could purchase some red light lens & globe dye and just paint your foglight globe red. I just did the same with brake and tail and fog globes on a MK4 that has smoked tails fitted.

On the other hand, they are justa different shade of red, what's the big deal?

A lot of mk5 ownes were fitting the R32 tinted tails which are only slightly different but either way still look better.. I'd probably get the tinted ones myself but haven't seen many pics of the normal ones. Not that much difference, the lighter ones would be good for OEM (overseas OEM that is) depends if you want a darker theme or clean.

Just thought id confirm even with the good aussie dollar that the tailights on ECS are LHD specific. If you plug the rhd part numbers into their catalogue u can order the tailight assemblies separately but then they come to $800+ USD without shipping (instead of $649).

Just thought I would update you all on my work as the guinea pig for my dealer.... I ordered the lights and when they arrived I dropped them off at my dealer so they could play around with them.... Well, they have informed me that all is well and the codes provided by the supplier are spot on. They said the lights fit perfectly and no error codes to be seen!! It is fair to say that I am pretty happy about this as when my car finally arrives (docks into Melbourne on 30th Oct) I will be picking it up with the LED lights already to go...

Anyway, just thought some might be interested

So your dealer fitted the LEDs for you?

Given the car hasn't arrived I suspect they fitted them up to a test-car prior to installing them on the GTI...

Correct Axis.... They tested them out on a demo GTI at the dealership so when my car arrives they can bolt them in and do the recoding before I pick it up.

LOL! I've got a spare set of 118TSI standard rear lights if you'd like to mod your new "R". I was going to offer them to Coreying first though....

Saw a standard Golf with LED taillights today, with a spoiler and 18 inch rims. Thought it was a Golf R for a sec before I saw its tailpipes. As for styling, I personally like the LED taillights but prefer the front of the GTI over the R.

I suppose all the GTI owners getting the darker colored LED lights is annoying, but if you got the standard colour LED lights, they are the same as the LED's that are factory fitted options over in Europe.

After all no point having accessories on a GTI that are not what VW ever intended to have in the first place.

The way I see it, it's like a commodore owner fitting HSV brake lights to a SS. Most people would be none the wiser, but for those that do know... It looks abit silly. But that's the way I see it in my head...

That's exactly how I see it in my head. I know a few of my "auto" mates would feel the same.
