The problem with replica lights from China is that they may look the same from the outside, but you just don't know what kind of projectors they are providing you with, and trust me that can make a huge difference.

Admittedly this is a more difficult option which involves opening and modifying your halogen headlights, but a friend of mine has the FX-R retrofit with 50w Morimoto kit and it is much brighter and probably wider than OEMs - and you know that you are getting proper projectors with proper cut-offs. If you want it done properly, IMO the only options are buy from OEM manufacturers or retrofit these projectors.

How much would a standard OEM set of Xenon / HID headlights be from VW?

How hard would it be to upgrade from the standard halogens? I imagine that those with MY10 golfs may choose to upgrade to the MY11+ lights with the integrated LED driving lights and hence have their old sets for sale.

Realistically, to do it legally with genuine parts, you're looking at $5k+ in parts and labour!

Ordering Chinese Replica Xenon Headlights for my GTI

Hey Everyone

I am ordering as mentioned above some replica xenon headlights and I was just wondering if anyone in Melbourne had done the swap over??

I have searched the forums and seen it is a plug and play type thing, but was just curious if anyone knew anyone who could fit it for me because I'm a little bit paranoid to do it myself.

just a word of thought, if you were involved in an accident, then your insurance rejects your claim based on the fact that you are running HID's illegally, hence unroadworthy car, so you get your car back unrepaired and you have to pay the other party damages out of your own pocket, what would you do?

to run HID's legally, you must have auto leveller and headlights washers on top of the proper HID headlights.

From what I've seen of them they are a very poor quality. Projector rings falling off, inner paint peeling off and also the inside of the lights seem to fog up after a while. Not condensation but something else that gets on the lens.

nothing is straightforward with new German cars

Correct! If you get the LED Xenons you will need an highline CECM with a part number that ends 87 not 86.

i'm currently very tempted in retrofitting the led bixenon kit...

have purchased the headlight jet washers and pump.

and when the tax refund is in the bank, i will likely buy the remaining parts (autolevelling / new cecm / etc) from Poland, Kufatec, eBay German and ECS

but been trying to convince myself to stop the indulgence and save up for a mk7 instead.... someone help me!!

and one more thing, there are so many candy white new passat wagons with led bixenons used as taxis in brisbane! dont want to be mistaken as a taxi from distance :p

So after months and months of trying to sort out my lights issues so i can install the LED DRL kit i've still got nothing. I've turned off the DRLs in the car, I've even tried to thurn them on and off using the codes from the manual with no luck. any ideas?????
