I think it will be helpful come sale time. Same with Sillyspeed Alfa's. People know to avoid them due to high cost of repairs which are generally always needed. Same with Audi Multichronic.

I still have a soft spot for the RS. They are 2 different cars 2 achieve 2 different purposes but the GTI is certainly more fun. The exhaust note helps and it feels a lot more nimble and better on direction change. I actually think the steering weight in the RS is better. Adds a bit more feel, but I'm sure that is personal. Interior quality is good in the Skoda but you can see & hear where the extra money goes in the GTI.

        hey mate, dealing with kylie.

would of liked the led drl's and xenons but 6months is a long wait.. so ill have to settle for the standard lights as the car will be docking mid august apparently .. hopefully the standard lights are still decent..

        • Hi guys, i've been trolling in here the last 3 weeks but this is my first post....

Was very excited and positive...until today. Im ready to buy a GTI and have rung a couple of dealers in Perth. Im after: 5-dr Carbon Steel, dsg, xenons, 18" upgrade, rear camera.

Told them im ready to buy, but the best price I had was still $52k!!! Both dealers weren't interested in moving at all with their price, telling me these cars are selling by themselves at those prices. From what I have read in here, people in the eastern states are easily getting $5k less than that for similar specs.

I'd like to know if $52k for that spec is "normal" here in Perth...or should I be haggling for more? I figured that even if I can get one for $48k from over east, I could freight it to Perth and still save a few grand!

At the moment im just abit deflated about buying one if it's gonna be more than $50k....I could get a bigger vehicle at that price.

          • Price isn't great. A guy over on vwgolf.net just picked up one similar for $48 I think.

Call Wangara VW and ask to speak to Dermot.
If the price he gives you isn't better, then I'd say you've already got a good deal

I just hope the manual doesnt mean the car is "****", and will hopefully be able to re-sell it down the track when I can afford a R!
As the other guys have mentioned, you won't be dissapointed with the manual. I've been driving mine for a week now and its excellent. Very smooth and at the same time very fun to drive, I had the DSG previously and although the DSG is the best automatic I've driven (by far), the manual is just more fun IMO.

I paid $49,500 on Saturday for:

5 Door DSG in Candy White
                  - Leather
                  - Sunroof
                  - 18" Detroits
                  - Bluetooth
                  - MDI

Car was in stock at Barloworld VW in Melbourne - maybe looking over here in the east is a good option.

Should be looking around 47-48k for your spec, I think?

                  • Allanna1,

That spec GTI should not cost you more then $50k (Max). If you can get anywhere between $48k to $49k, that will be the best.

If you are eligible for corporate discount then use it, that should bring the price down.

                    Good luck!
                    Cheers,

                    • Yep I agree with twistz I paid 50k for exact same spec as twistz on road with premium euro plates (worth $400) from dealer in campbellton, west of Sydney. Leather and sun are expensive items you should get better price.

BTW - Good choice spec choice twists

I paid almost the same for similar spec 49,750 except it being carbon steel.

Backdoc I too have an rs wagon and mk6 gti. Agree with your comments on nimbleness and exhaust note but other than non damped grab handles and harder plastic interior door handles and no lock on glovebox I don't really see where the extra cad has gone. Enlighten please.

Seats are different; GTI more supportive. Plastics are much of a muchness, soft touch and all, but GTI seems a bit more refined and generally fit is a bit better; especially the door trims near the windows; the contrast stitching; the better steering wheel. The hear factor is in the sound deadening. Car doors even feel different when you close them. The GTI cabin is more refined and just a touch classier. Whether it is worth the extra coin is up to the individual. Either way, I love the RS and the GTI. I probably loved my Mk V R32 a little more than both though

I love the RS wagon (have driven several; my mum's thinking of getting one), and it is great value (especially with free sat-nav now!). Shame the MFD is lower-res and is missing a few minor features, like currently-set cruise control speed - I love that feature in the GTI. The door map pockets aren't carpet-lined in the RS either. It's still an outstanding car though.

                              • When was the XDL, EDL, ???

Hi could some one tell in what year the XDL and the EDl were introduced to the GTI is from 2010 onwards or wht thanks Gazza

                                Extended Electronic Diff erential
                                Lock (XDL)
XDL is an extension of the
                                Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).
This applies pressure to the inner
                                front wheel during cornering to
                                prevent spinning. Precise brake
                                pressure helps to maximise traction,
                                reduce understeer and improve
                                responses, thus making cornering
even more sporty, safe and accurate.

                                Electronic Diff erential Lock (EDL)
EDL improves driving and steering characteristics when accelerating
on road surfaces where each wheel has a different degree of traction.
The system operates automatically and is combined with the ABS
system. Using the ABS wheel sensors, EDL monitors the speed of the
individual driving wheels. When a difference in driving wheel speed
is detected (i.e. when one wheel starts to spin due to differences in
road surfaces, e.g. due to water or dirt) the system brakes the spinning
wheel, transferring engine power to the wheel with the best traction.

Extended Electronic Diff erential Lock (XDL)
The Electronic Differential Lock XDL is an extension to the EDL
function. When cornering, the XDL responds to the unloading of
the front wheel on the inside of the corner. The ESP hydraulics are
used for the XDL to apply pressure to the wheel on the inside of the
corner in order to prevent wheel spin. This improves traction and
reduces the tendency to understeer. As a direct result of the one-sided
and precise braking pressure, cornering is sportier, quicker and more
                                accurate.
