I wish. Next build starts in Week 6 of 2010, so they're not expecting delivery till mid May for factory orders. Will order it early Jan, as i hope that VAG will pass on the import tariff savings.

Glennb it sounds like your in the ballpark I was talking and expecting if I were to open negotiations. If you can get a fully optioned vehicle for under $58k with a corporate discount then it's a winner. No idea what to expect of resale though as I would think most of the GTI's sold will have few options fitted and set a low benchmark on the second hand market 2-3 years down the track.

They are probably meaning the mats that come as standard with the GTI - you can order the ones above but are generally an additional charge and you would end up with 2 sets of mats.

I know this is off topic but when a dealer gives you free floor mats are they the ones with the red trim with the word GTI at the bottom? Or just the regular Golf ones?

Just ordered a red, 5 door GTI with DSG and MDI today from South Yarra Volkswagen.

I am not going to post my price but will just say they have a few in stock and seem interested in shifting them before Christmas. Comparing the price I got to others who have posted on this forum makes me comfortable that I got a good deal.

Michael and Faiyaz at South Yarra have been a pleasure to deal with so far. I am hopefully picking up the car on Friday so will post again if my experience/opinion changes in the meantime.


BTW - I also went to Camberwell Volkswagen. My impression on leaving there was not so good. Some examples: I rang to see if they had a 3 door in stock. They did and they gave me a rough price of 46k or 47k on the phone. When I went to have a look at it, all of a sudden it was $49,420. This included dealer delivery of $3,995, which seems ridiculous. And then, I couldn't actually get them to give me a real price on that car or even on one for delivery in March. Their reasoning was that I will just take that price and use it to go and get $50 off at another dealer. They wanted me to put down a deposit before they would talk final price. I haven't bought a new car for 10 or so years so I might be naive, but this just seems crazy to me. Oh and they did that whole "I just have to talk to the manager and see what we can do." routine a couple of times too.

Congrats on the purchase, don't drive mine too often (sad I know, only 700km on the clock over 3-4 weeks) and took her out for a drink and a wash today, such a fantastic drive. You'll love the car, and if you got a good deal then thats all that matter in the end. I have a friend in the USA who went in to look at a Corvette. The dealer wouldn't even let him sit in a car, and when he asked for a test drive, they practically had a heart attack. He was told he'd have to buy one, then he'd get to "test drive" his actual car when it arrived from the factory.

No they don't have any 3 doors. I was after one of those too, and was going to line one up for the next (March?) shipment. Just out if interest I asked him what he had available right now and they had one that was almost exactly what I was going to order, except it was a 5 door. Given the good price they offered and the fact that I would get it on Friday, and that the rego had expired on my trade in, I couldn't pass it up.

Yeah, I resisted the temptation to switch to the 5-door (REALLY like the lines of the 3-door) and am on the every growing waiting list. It was painful watching some of the PGA golf on the TV on the weekend and seeing the silver 3-door that was sitting on the Par-3 as a prize for a hole-in-one. Might have been nice marketing, but probably not the best way to thrill your customers waiting for orders taunting us like that.

I bought one with no options because the base GTI have everything that i needed...
5 door, CW, manual and sound system can handle up to 32GB from a SD card and got the car for about 3 weeks now n it have 1600 on the clock

5 doors is an option .

I wouldn't go crazy with options as you don't get much of it back come time to sell it (as well as costing more at the time).

Not sure what standard bluetooth is $ wise but without that those specs are $49,118 so you seen a $5900 discount without taking into account the bluetooth. So in answer yes that is a good price, well done, enjoy

That's a good price for the cable mine was $75 and rrp is usually 90$ or something. Although if you're buying a car you'd think they could throw it in.
