I have been quoted 49315 for

5dr DSG Carbon Steel with, Leather, MDI, Sunroof, Metallic Paint.

Seems like a decent price?

I think so, finance guy has connections at a dealership and hooked me up the price.

I had ordered a stock GTI a few weeks ago for a similar price, but cancelled due to dealers inability to supply 18's. Very happy i did now

Discount on invoice quote is 2800, and they only charged 900 for stealer delivery.

Why arnt we getting the reduction in import duty passed on in our quotes??? Volkswagon are just an absoulete joke.... droppin $50k on a car you expect atleast 8-9% discount plus the reduction in duty equates to a minimum $6k discount per car IMO

As I calculated, that's still a $6k saving. It would've been almost $8700 if DSG was included.

The $6k is already unbelievable enough! If DSG was included then I'd just laugh at you as I'd know you're pulling our leg!

Guys honestly , the gti 6 is the same price as the golf 5 gti give or take. Why the hell would you then pay $6-7000 grand more especially when it is primarily the same car. Don't be gullable, if they could sell you a gti 5 leather/roof under corporate for mid forties why would you think that the 6 would be worth over 50????

I for one will not bother with the gti until dealers realise that screwing over potential clients with a desirable produt is something only apple can get away with

don't give your salesman brain damage but be confident that as a retail purchase you should be able to get $6,000 off with delivery charges around $2995 and around $8,000 with corporate.

I don't know what you drive, but in most conditions the Mark V GTI corners like it is on rails and with very neutral handling, especially for a FWD.

So in normal circumstances (whether that be driving to the shops or enthusiastic, but safe, driving on country roads) in which front and rear grip is maintained, more rear grip will not result in more understeer.

So fitting wider wheels to the rear of a GTI should not be detrimental in most circumstances.

But if you mean "more understeer" not in practical terms but in absolute terms (ie under more extreme driving conditions or on a track with an expert such as yourself behind the wheel), then perhaps you could qualify your comments accordingly.

Or do you actually power-off when cornering (your Golf?) on sealed public roads and induce oversteer?

ahhh, so im a hoon for not endorsing a modification that "should not be detrimental in most circumstances". LingLong tyres should not be detrimental in most circumstances either....

do some reading on race car engineering, carroll smith is a very good source. from this you will learn about vehicle dynamics....that beleive it or not apply to humble road cars too. then you may be able to engage in worthwhile discussion on the subject. I dont have the time or inclination to argue with you about a subject that you have no understanding of, yet hold such strong views.
