    Only 7 days to go!!

Yeah, the same deal will apply for the release of Mk6 as happened for Mk5*
with dealers having a play with the cars in Sydney/Hunter Valley with release following immediately.

This is happening on Saturday 10th October, so only one week to go!

I'm looking forward to seeing the new GTI and having a test drive. Couldn't care less though if I have to wait 6 months to receive the exact specs I'm after.

Of course 18" wheels are an option. Please refer to the recently leaked spec sheet from the VW site for all the details.

Hopefully the next Wheels and Motor magazines will feature the Mk6 GTI.

My dealer has taken a pre-order from me that includes the 18" wheels as an option.

This would be the easiest thing to go without if they could otherwise meet my spec sheet.

Agree with Plopeye that the WRX is faster but the Mk V GTI was a much bette drive.

I was told that cars have been provided to Wheels etc to test already.

      The countdown continues....

        .
Standard will be 17" Denver. The 18" Detroit will be available as an option (these are known as Monza and Monza Shadow respectively in the UK).

Fifth Gear comparo (and others) showed the 08 Mk V GTI to be lot faster around the test track than an 08 WRX

It seems they've updated this page:

            GTI - http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/perl/...2009083344.cmd

            GTD - http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/perl/...2009083359.cmd

It appears that the GTD will be five door only, and the GTI both five and three door version.

I was just in the USA and I was looking at a MK6 GTI at the VW dealership in Dover, Delaware while waiting for the NASCAR. It looks brilliant in the flesh!

My only gripe is why do we get bent over so badly in Australia. The advertised price was $23,000 USD. It was a sunday so I wasnt able to enquire further, but after you do the conversion you get close to $26,000!!!!! Ok, this was the 3 door with the standard seats, but lets now assume they have $3k of on road costs which brings it to under $30,000.

I understand the US is the largest consumer market in the world, however we are talking well over $10k difference for the same car. This doesnt add up and is depressing!

Who is making the money? VW, the importer (VW Aust) or the dealer? It just doesnt add up.

I know that sometimes, we feel like we are at the butt end off all deals when it comes to automotives when compared to the US, but then I take a step back and am glad that at least we don't pay the same amount as Singapore

They are nice in the flesh, even nicer to drive - there are some pics of the ones I was driving last month over here:

Because the US is more litigious than Oz, their insurance premiums are much higher. When I was living over there, they couldn't believe how 'little' it was to insure a wrx (this was before the mk5 gti)

                              *jealous*

Not cause you got to see a MK6, but because you were there for the Monster Mile

You can add the Australian governments (federal and state) to that list - import duties/excises and various taxes.
