i rec go south yarra, as both of us can sticky together for the delivery date, i told his manager about your interest, and he agree do the same deal as me.

yeah completely agree south yarra has a lot better customer service and at the end of the day i know Alex gave me a great price and i feel a lot more comfortable knowing that if something goes wrong with my car/order that they will actually care and that's priceless... if only everyone had the benefit of a little foresight

only thing i am worrying about is, whether they can keep their promise to delivery my car on time.

The price that you've got Dong is without leather seat, i've actually overlooked your price spec and thought that you have leather trim in your car, when i spoke to Alex, that's what he told me and i was like yeah i did over look it.

So as soon as i told him i needed leather trim and the rest is all the same, the price he has given is the same as burwin. so no difference, i prefer dealing with Burwin.

Nah you see, those are the bull**** negotiation tactics that people don't like! I mean great, you show Alex your Burwin price and IF he came down even more, what's making you loyal to him? What's stopping you from going back to Burwin and screwing over both Alex AND Burwin by asking them to negotiate further? It's bad negotiation practise imo.

There is nothing wrong with saying 'I've had better elsewhere, can you do any better'. But if they say no, or if you don't really have better elsewhere and they call your bluff, then that's it. There's no need to show other dealers quotes.

                • I agree and for me I find a dealer I like to deal with do my research and then just deal with them, none of this running around crap.

It's also the reason why dealers are either reluctant or will not put your 'quote' in writing until you are ready to go ahead.

I think its more important to have a good relationship with the dealership than to save an extra few hundred, better for future purchases etc etc.

i will never do that, even south yarra could not beat the price, i will still go with them, watch my price, glen offer me 48500, what did i paid in south yarra, 48750, you have to compare with different dealers, like i had a quote from a dealer in Brisbane, they quote me 57k, and told me hard to get down... i go to south yarra just because glen's manager 'threaten' me with that deal, i have to wait my car until August! that's why i went for another dealer, and get deal done, i did not go back to ask more in glen, that's not the way i am doing business. certainly i like to build up a relationship with dealer. the time i spent on that deal was just 5 hours, i dont want to waste anyone's time but just see who wants to make the deal done most and respected me as a customer. i own my cake/coffee shop, and i told my staff the most important thing is customer service, i show my respect to them and expect others show to me as well, but from the beginning of the neg. in glen, i could not feel any of this from them, they dont mind to lose a sale, ok, fair enough, i go somewhere else!
by the way, as long as you are feeling good about the deal, then deal!
but for me to do everything, my purpose is, finish my task done with the best result and the least time spent, effective and efficient! i dont want to play around, just not in tha mood.

That's quite a difference.. Brisbane deals don't seem very good, but then again they would probably just quote RRP over the phone but still dont think it would be easy to get the same discount as with the MK5's (but got mine in 2008, not when they first came out). There just seems to be a no-discount feeling as there are long waits etc.

                      • the way I read this is that this is exactly what noowve has done. He has been to burwin and south yarra. South Yarra have given him a similar price to burwin's, he prefers dealing with burwin so he wants to go back there... Even if South Yarra could match the deal, by the sounds of it he is happier at Burwin.
I mean, you wouldn't like people coming into your shop and asking you to match or beat the price of a competitor down the road, if not then I'm going there everytime they come in.... I'd prefer not to have that customer...

Noowve, IMO, you if you like the way you're being dealt with at Burwin and you're happy with the price, then sign away...

We all get that you have to compare different dealers, because otherwise you have no reference as to whether you're getting ripped off or not. What I objected to was this:

That's not comparing, that's negotiating dirty. If you were working for a company and tendering for business or merchandise, this would even be illegal and could wind yourself up in jail for! hehe

                          • Checking for Delivery

                            Hi all

I am new here so I hope I am posting my query in the right section. I just recently bought a 2009 golf 103 TDI comfortline DSG with sports pack. Delivery is expected to take place this coming Thursday. I have tracked the car via its VIN and it indicated that the car was delivered from Port Kembla in March 2009.

As I found the whole experience of dealing with car sales people quite daunting, I would be grateful if more experienced members could clarify some of the issues that I am concerned prior to taking delivery:

                            1. Given the car has been in the car yard/warehouse since March 2009 is there a higher risk of dammage to the body (scratch, etc) to be expected? What are the hidden signs I should be looking out for?

                            2. What sort of "pre" mileage on the odometer is acceptable?

                            3. What acceptable brand of tyres should the car come with?

                            4. The dealer will not give me a cheque for my trade-in on the delivery date. How do I make sure that the refund will be made as they say within 1 week?

Any general tips/help that you may have is most appreciated.

                            Thanks for all your help.

                            • If you are trading in your old car, they wont give you a cheque for it... Wont they just take off what they are giving you from the total price of your new car?

                                1. No there should'nt be anything to worry about here. You will find that this car has been sitting in a holding yard and after the pre-delivery detail it will be fine.

                                2. There should be no "pre-mileage" just delivery kms, 20km or under should be what you are looking at. Any more like 100km plus then you need to question what the vehicle was used for.

                                3. If you are going for the sports pack than a good quality "known" brand. Expect European not Japanese or Korean made.

                                4. I think you have lost us all with you trade in cheque, but I think you are leasing your new car and the trade in is going back to your account? Anyway they should pay you the time they take ownership of you old car. You have to pay them on the spot before you drive off and that is the same for them.
Don’t except payment within a week demand full payment at the time you give them your old car.
