    Canberra run on Tuesday.

730kms out of the tank - filled up with 4l remaining.

Lots of police on the roads so needed to be sensible so fuel consumption challenge was the only dirving challenge left to me

Noticed that my mileage sucks now that I only drive to the station and home filled up it said 650kms, previously when I was driving to work I was getting close to 820kms from a tank... Little drives are killer!

Even at idle the turbo is spinning...although its not actually generating boost pressure, its still "working" as such even if you never revved it above 2-2.5k RPM.

Sounds like you should have bought an na rather than a turbo

    But of a shame really

Turbo doesn't just switch on at 3,500rpm. It is boosting all the time just not at full limit. So it is always spinning with very mild boost at even very low rpm. If you want to know how, then the first 30 to 60 seconds on the 160PS engine after a cold start is turbo only mode. The supercharger boost is not used although the clutch engages.

Econo run back from Cooma a few weeks ago 5.9l/100km, not bad for a stage 2 GTI

Ive hit 950 kms, five times consecutively, before fuelling. Dat diesel.

    I find i get a ~ 1l/100km lower reading if im doing 120 , when comparing with 105

No. The FIS+ works by interfacing with the car's CAN gateway on the CANBUS. Updates to engine/transmission/etc module software won't affect this.

Out of interest, have you changed your tyres recently?

I have averaged 7.2 l/100 km but when i switched to michelin pilot sports 3 it is now averaging 7.8l/100km. Disappointing, but i love the cornering ability and wet weather confidence!

Though that doesnt explain the hefty increase in thirst.

I wonder if they havent installed something correctly like a spark plug, new air filter. My car felt peppy again after the 60,000km service.

The 118TSI's initially ran far too lean (not enough fuel = engine runs very hot and can cause engine failures) when they were first released in the MK6 shape and VW has released upgraded software several times to make the engine run richer (use more fuel = engine runs cooler and is safer for the engine). If your software was upgraded at your 60k service, then this may well be the reason why your car is now using another litre or two more fuel per 100km.
