The MK6 Fuel Consumption (Most / Least per Tank) Thread

I've just done Melbourne to Sydney and back in one day. 1610kms and got 6.8l/100kms, which I'm pretty impressed with.

I wish they had those rules when I got done. It was 6 points for your speed as well.
It's quite interesting how low the averages are for your model golf. They seem to be really fuel efficient.
I'm interested in the difference on long drives between the Manual and DSG. I'm a manual because I hate autos.
Safe driving.

I have the manual mate.
Yea I've been done for speeding before.. One thing I've learned is to be nice and not give them s***.. They deal with crap all day long so as long as you're honest with them they should be fair with you.. Even though he pinged me @ over 120kms (110 zone) he only fined me 10kms and under so I only lost 2 demerit points (long weekend double demerit)
Had he wanted to be a complete a** he could have flogged me with the full 6 points, so yeah...
Ye I noticed that too.. The GPS wouldn't shut up lol.. I don't know how the Melbourne folk keep track of where all the cameras are!Originally posted by RosscoMK3 View PostThe vic cameras are on nearly every overpassLast edited by Captain Courteous; 16-04-2012, 07:41 PM.

Is yours a DSG or manual? I just did that same trip.Originally posted by Captain Courteous View Post+1 the GPS readout is more accurate over the speedometer.
I had a TomTom setup on our Easter drive to Melbourne, running alongside the RNS510. This may sound strange however when I heard that fixed speed cameras in Victoria have no warning signs before them like the ones here in NSW I thought I'd use the TomTom as an alert device.
The irony: I was busted for speeding anyways just before the border by a cop hiding at the bottom of a hill. His radar pinged me at 122ks, my GPS readout was exactly the same (speedo was showing >130) For the rest of the trip I set the cruise @ 121ks, drove past two more cops in Victoria - no dramas.
Fuel consumption for the trip (Sydney > Melbourne > Twelve Apostles via Great Ocean Road > back to Sydney) 5.9/100
That's with 4 people + luggage. Range on the MFD 860kms - highest figure I've ever seen on the car. Pretty accurate as well, only had to refuel 3 times. Cheaper than flying there.
That sucks about getting busted for speeding. The vic cameras are on nearly every overpass and they don't have the same % allowance as the ones in other states.
Only three years and you'll get those 6 points back. I got done 5 years ago for doing 114 in a 90 zone just after the 90 sign, which I missed. "Is there a reason you were travelling at such a high speed Sir". I laughed which didn't go down well.

But if you are doing the Newie to Sydney run regularly, that kind of use is hardly surprising, also a performance tune tends to lean it up a bit over stock meaning slightly better economy. I don't get anywhere neat your economy toddling (or as you witnessed Saturday, hooning) around Sydney, only on longer journeys I might approach the magic 9l/100km..Originally posted by Ideo View PostI've averaged 620 out of the last 5 tanks.
I need to drive it harder.

I just reset the odo every time I fill up - I also keep a logbook because I am on 85% business usage.
I've averaged 620 out of the last 5 tanks.

115 on GPS.
Having said that, on 115 via GPS, speedo is reading 120 or so
My P3 gauge reads differently again and I don't trust it TBH

Just a FYI, but you may already be aware - but you can set the cruise on about 119-120kph and you will only be "really" travelling at 110-111kph. I went past cops last weekend sitting on an indicated 120-122kph (real speed about 112kph) and they didn't even look twice at me.Originally posted by Candyman View PostThe R sat on 115 all the way from Melbourne to Sydney apart from a few short stops.
Short blasts now and then either overtaking or just for kicks
Overall, 7.8 l/100km.
Im getting the "Real" speed off my P3 gauge which reads directly off the ECU.

Though I don't agree, I think a better analogy would be buying a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 2 kitchen house and everyone living in 1 room ( enter carbon tax)
My care factor is low but my interest factor is high
