My 1.8 was averaging high 7s when new. It now averages mid-6. As i said, your engine isn't run-in yet. At these early kilometres, I'd recomend you forget about trying for economy & drive with a bit of spirit. The engine will break-in better & your economy down the track will be very much closer to where you expect it.Originally posted by dasrattles View Postit claimed a 6.1/100km figure. and while i know its pretty much impossible to get that, i was expecting smth like a 6.5? i dont drive my car hard so i'm just puzzled that bout the figures. (my previous Mazda2 with a claimed 6.8/100km returned 6.9/100km)
haha FC is pretty impt to me (hence the 118TSI over the GTI). i'm still in uni and it adds up to ~ $5 more a week. its almost like my car is taking my lunch money once a week lol.
PS: what happened to the days when Uni students drove 20 year old Geminis that doubled in value if you put a case of beer in the boot?

According to my trip computer, my FC is at 7.7L/100km. They claimed 7.6L for the GTI so I must be doing something rightOriginally posted by dasrattles View Postit claimed a 6.1/100km figure. and while i know its pretty much impossible to get that, i was expecting smth like a 6.5? i dont drive my car hard so i'm just puzzled that bout the figures. While the claimed figure is 6.2L/100km, I doubt your driving pattern is exactly ADR 81/02. As the expression goes, YMMV. Move on, and just enjoy your new car.

What did you think it will be?
Maybe just enjoy the new car and stop worrying about FC

yes it does. I had a big consumption drop at 5000km & another noticeable drop at 15,000km. They take a while to break-in fully.Originally posted by dasrattles View Postjust needed to know, does the breaking in of your engine have anything to do with fuel consumption? eg. if you break it in right you'll constantly use lesser fuel. i'm getting ~7.1L/100 km on my 118TSI that has 2200km on it. doesnt seem to be going down

Pretty much what I got.I'm not complaining.If I wanted economy,I would've bought a diesel.
I'm happy with my figures and don't want to drive like I'm on my last gallon!

I can get about 660Km of mileage per tank of fuel with 40% urban driving and 60% extra urban. I use ron 95.

I'm heading up the coast for a week of pretty gentle cruising. Be interesting to see how it goes.

Likewise for me, came back from a run down south 700kms average 9.3 l/100km mainly country 100-110kph, some brief squirts through some twistiesOriginally posted by LWR View PostI just did a run to the Sunshine Coast and back.Fully loaded on the way up with a bit of fun while there and back today and averaged 9.15L/100KM.I'm pretty happy with that result considering it hovers around 14L/100 down here.
It ran like a top!I'm very happy with it.
