Just a quick one, noticed my fuel warning light has come on for the first time on my new mk6 GTI, apparently there is 50km's left and the needle has hit the upper point of the red zone... generally how far could you theoretically milk it? In my old car, i could probably drive another 50km's once the needle had gone past the very last notch, obviously not the best thing to do on a regular basis

Hi all
Just a quick one, noticed my fuel warning light has come on for the first time on my new mk6 GTI, apparently there is 50km's left and the needle has hit the upper point of the red zone... generally how far could you theoretically milk it? In my old car, i could probably drive another 50km's once the needle had gone past the very last notch, obviously not the best thing to do on a regular basis
But i know that even though it might say its empty they tend to leave a bit of leeway of a few litres to be safe.

I honestly suggest getting a 2 year old 103TDI DSG Comfortline (sports pack isn't necessary, just adds stiffer suspension etc. She'll probably only want the base. Usually pick one up around $23-26k.Originally posted by Lucas_R View PostDamn thats amazing economy. 118TSI and I average 7L/100kms .. 45-60 minutes of city/freeway driving to work and back.
Never had it at much less that 7L/100kms but last time I did look after a weekend of fun driving it was 8.3L/100kms as an average.. Seems high when its only a 118....

I generally ignore that. I wish it could be changed to optimum change for performance. Fuel economy if neither here nor there.Originally posted by Mi16 Man View PostIgnorance is bliss......with regards to the MFD that is!
Speaking of which, battled up the Pacific Highway with the AC on, then F3 then Terrigal Drive to Avoca Beach. Average of 8.3
I seriously don't know what some of you are doing to get low fuel economy. I just drive it, thrash it sometimes and generally hang on to gears for much longer than that stupid display says.

Oh I see - haha. Happy to stick with my DSG, that's for sure! I'm not surprised that it's telling you to change into fifth @ 40km/h, the DSG in auto mode would do that in some situations. But it can, because the low end torque can sustain itOriginally posted by Ryan41 View PostStick to your DSG son.. haha.. He is in 5th.. with MFD suggesting to shift up to 6th! ..
The MFD is stupid anyway.. i can be doing 40 in 3rd and it would be telling me to shift to 5th..

I see a number 6....not 5...Originally posted by hooba View PostYou'd get even better economy if you listened to your car and changed up to 6th gear sooner.
70km/h in 5th is way too many revs, especially with the cruise control on.

My average over the first 6,000 km to date is 9.4 L/100km.
I live in the city, work in the city, so most of my driving is stop/start/slow. I think you can pretty much disregard the ADR combined figures for any car, unless you live in the country, as I've owned 3 brand new cars in the last 3 years and they have all been considerably higher than the ADR combined figures. The city and highway figures however, are pretty spot on I have found.
A fair amount depends on how you drive it too, it's so much bloody fun to drive the GTI with "enthusiasm".
9.4 L/100km is about half of what my 4 litre V6 Navara D-40 auto used to consume, so I'm not complaining....

Loving my R. Never bother to look at fuel use because the vehicle is so much fun.
When the car tells me, I fill it up.
Life is like that
Still, bloody amazed how good it is doing after only 3 days out of the dealers. Returning fuel consumption figures close to the GTI I had - same roads, same driving style. Must have a good one I guess.
