BTW may I know what iIshould notice and check when I come to pick up my new golf markIV,and I am still a little confused about what is the different between MY11 and MY11.5,and what accessories should I get from an new car.
From the specifications list(The book from dealer), I realise that there are some accessories are dealer fitted(VW GENUINE ACCESSORY),should these item been included in a new car or i should pay for them, thanks a lot : )
Difference between MY11 and 11.5 is minor interior changes. Look here:

You need to be careful what you call an "RRP". There is the RRP of the car itself. And the "Drive away price". Whilst many might say "Drive away RRP", it's not really an "RRP" because it WILL change from state to state, dealer to dealer and driver to driver.

dieterbohlen has provided the link to the MY11.5 changes. As for "what you get" with your purchase. You only get what is marked as "Standard" in the specifications brochure and what options and dealer accessories you have paid additional for and are listed on your sales contract. All other dealer accessories you wish to purchase you will need to pay additional for once your car has arrived.

      • Thought I'd add my experiences ...

I have purchased 4 Golfs, all from the same dealer over the past few years. I have a good relationship and I believe I have always done very well on price. More so I have done better than expected when I have traded. My most recent purchase saw the new car price the same as another dealer (under the EOFY deal), however my bloke was $4K sharper on the trade!

I have bought all my cars for around $500 less than the RRP price of the car, so I have effectively always had on roads / CTP etc absorbed.

For my most recent purchase I was a bit fussy on colour and they couldn't find me one. I have an 8 week wait to get one that was on their stock list to be built, I think it was built last week. I have paid the exact price for the car with all on roads etc absorbed. Bonus is I'll get a MY12 and effectively save $800 odd with the MDI and Bluetooth as standard. My trade price has also been held, which I think is impressive. I have the chance to sell it privately if I want, but I actually believe I wouldn't get a whole lot more if I do sell privately!

        • You've done well. Selling the car privately has sometimes disadvantage and as you said you may actually struggle to get more for it - depends what you're selling of course.

          Congratulations on your new ride!

            $28,550 drive away
bought at VW Chatswood Classic Cars

Wasn't sure we got a good deal or not... but it was pretty hard going towards the end of negotiating. Most dealers flat out refused to even come near to matching. Only one at McGrath Liverpool could offer less - only $180 so we went with the local offer.

Does it sound good? I've never negotiated a car sale before. I hope we didn't get ripped off.

Got mine for $26,000 (was a Showroom Demo with 20kms on it, however I read somewhere that even brand new cars that were delivered had this amount of kms on it - so for my own satisfaction and blissful nights I don't consider it a "demo" )

              Shark Blue Metalic Paint
Added floor mats and boot liner myself for $180 for a lot
Will think about boot protector (eBay price is around 70 bucks)
Rear parking sensor (eBay DIY is about $35-40 delivered).

That sounds really good! is it a 2011 one too?

If so DAMN! Seems like I should have tried to squeeze some more out of them. They were getting pretty grumpy though. The dealer I bought from at first refused to do the price we eventually got. Only reconsidered when I told them I was local and therefore likely to service with them.

Yes, it is MY11, however the interior is not MY11.5, but who cares about knobs being silver and not black.

You both may want to pay attention to the "Location". One of you is in Perth and the other is in Sydney.

On a Golf where the price of the car only has been negotiated to $22,500, the "drive away" price in NSW will be ~$26,103.01 and the price in WA will be $25,630.18. In this example, both customers are paying the exact same amount for the car AND the dealer delivery, but the stamp duty, registration, CTP/Insurance, and plates cost varies between the states.

So it's not about "squeezing" more life out of the dealer. It's about understanding how cars are priced...

Ahhh ok, I'm a total newbie to everything regarding buying a car - I didn't realise there was a difference state to state - good to know!

Sounds like I did alright then; I think...

                      • Here’s my order:

90TSI Trendline manual (apparently it was their last one, next one was due in another 5 months?!)
                        Reflex Silver
                        MDI
                        iPod cable for MDI
                        RNS510
                        Parking Sensors
                        Mats
                        Rear Chrome Trim

$29,700 drive away from old mate Russell @ Denlo, Parramatta. I’m expecting to take delivery early next week.

I thought I would take advantage of VW’s current drive away special and splash out on the RNS510
While we were negotiating, I got the iPad out (had a modified version of the pricing calculator on there lol) It gave me a pretty good idea of how much coin was saved on the deal.... Think we did ok (I hope!)

The quote I got from Chatswood Classic (same spec but in United Grey minus the Chrome Trim) was $30,000 drive away. The dealer chick I spoke to there wouldn’t go any lower. It was interesting seeing as how Parramatta & Chatswood are the same company (Inchcape)...

Sounds like a great deal for all the extras you got! Helps that they have one in stock too
a modified pricing calculator? Sounds handy - might be a stupid question, but what exactly is that?

                          • It’s essentially the Pricing Calculator spreadsheet that you can download at the beginning of this thread. I modified it to reflect the prices of the different accessories I was after.

It was funny on the day, I called Chatswood (about the United Grey) to see if they would match/beat Denlo’s offer... It was already sold! I think it would have been about 2 days since I last enquired about it... They reckon it was their last 90TSI manual too!

Oh right.. the spreadsheet thing. So that was yet another stupid question from me haha. Didn't realise you could modify it like that - but then again my spreadsheet knowledge is non existent.

Yeah it's hard to find 2011 90tsi's out there. We couldn't find anyone that had an automatic.

I'm glad it was of help to you!
I did the same thing with an earlier version of the spreadsheet when I was at Denlo... but not on an Apple product of course

Whilst all the spreadsheet does is calculate drive away pricing correctly, I think that some dealers have nightmares about it as it allows a customer to instantly calculate where they're at.

It's slightly out of date now due to MY12 changes... but I'll wait until next month to update it when the state/federal governments typically update their taxes and fees anyway
