Eclipze: May i suggest trying Barloworld in Glen Waverley. They were pretty good in letting me get the corporate discount.
Given that I work at a bank (please don't hate me) and this was initially not on their "approved" list, he spoke to his manager and in the end all I needed to do was give them a business card of mine and all was sorted...

    With mine, I got GTI manual 5dr w 18" rims, driveaway for $41k with a 3mth wait...

As standard dealer delivery should be about the $2,000 mark and any dealer charging$2,995 or $3,995 is being a bit cheeky as this is just inflating the RRP and then making it look like they are giving you a bigger discount - ie a $2,000 discount off a dealer delivery of $3,995 isn't really a discount at all!

If you are entitled to corporate discount then the standard dealer delivery is $995

Of course all these figures are up for negotiation but it should give you a good idea

Hope this helps and feel free to contact me with any questions

      Kind Regards

      David Crofton
Thanks David, as that is what i was getting at too.
If a typical DD charge is between $990 to $2k, are the 10%+ discounts still achievable on these figures?
I'm still not sure if my GTi quote is reasonable or not because of the artificially inflated DD charge.

I read on here that members of the ACS (Australian Computer Society) are eligible for VW corporate discount.

Can anyone confirm and if there are any membership category restrictions (ie - would a 'student' level member be eligible?)

          Cheers

Makes you wonder about the cost difference... membership cost for one year is likely to save a lot more on the purchase price of the car.

I just ran the figures on your purchase Glennb and the RRP with dealer delivery at $1,995 works out about $61,500

The deal you got of $55,000 is a very good deal and there is pretty much no margin in it so you should still be stoked!

Remember guys and gals it's the bottom line that counts not the percentage discount

                        Cheers

5 door GTI manual, 18", MDI and also the boot rubber liner, $42k.

Given there are no manuals with 18" rims available, it's delivery March. So I might also up the deal and get leather seats given the time to save the extra.

I'd prefer the leather, but I've just been unsure on the wear'n'tear and general durability of having it. I don't want something too precious that I'm afraid to dump on the shopping on it, or if the small zipper in the rear pocket of my pants is going to catch on it etc... Never had leather seats before, so NFI.

                            Dave,
Thank you very much for your input as this has reassured me greatly.
I'll be ordering it early Jan in that case and look forward to being another GTi owner
