Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Note that the Marine Traffic website says "Last Known Port". Some of the ports are really slack on the modernisation front. Not even Port Kembla in NSW registers its ships in port properly. So the Morning Camilla never showed that it was "In port" at Port Kembla.

Also note that the Voyage Details for Tombarra say that it goes from Port Elizabeth to East London to Durban.

The shipping movements for East London does show the Tombarra in their movements update on the 18th. Again, none of this is very high tech. It's just someone uploading a page which a manually typed list of what they expect when. A far cry from the updating every 15 mins automated pages such as Fremantle's Port systems. So don't stress that the last time they updated Durban's list that it didn't have your ship on it.

          • I am sure when they unloaded yours they didn't do donuts in the parking area nor abuse the handbrake when powerslide parking. The suspension is strong enough to handle exiting the ships ramp at least 140 kays an hour .. well all those things are normal for a rental so I expect the warfies feel the same way with rich peoples cars

                • Fortunately, VWs are shipped in a 'transport mode' that limits revs and top speed, so wharfie abuse will hopefully be kept to a minimum.

                  • Well, there were times when i thought the day would never come but the Boheme (hopefully with my car on board) is due into Fremantle tomorrow morning at 04:15.

I will be at work at this time so although it will be still dark i'll be on the Fremantle Port Webcams to see if i can catch a glimpse of her on her way in.

                    • Awesome Prodigy! Hopefully you will get the keys to your car by this week!

Anyone know how long does the whole process of docking, clearing customs, etc & etc take?

My cargo ship is due to dock in Melb on 21/12/10. Any chance of me getting it before Christmas??

Ah but all they need is a netbook and VCDS and there is a little button that allows you to activate/deactivate the mode. I was tempted to test it on the missus Polo and let he go for a drive....

Mate - you are dreaming. It takes on average about 2 - 3 weeks from Docking to delivery to you depending on dealer workload, pre delivery delays, Aust Compliance process by Patricks etc. It will take around 4 days to even have it delivered to the Compliance company from the day it docks and you've got Christmas in that too. So, without trying to put a dampener on it, I reckon you're talking mid January.

Would you rather get your "Built 2010" car in January 2010, or wait until June to get your "Built 2011" car?
