How to track the car you have ordered?

my mk6 gti landed 30/04/10. but i just called excepting it to be ready some time next week...

but they said start of june it'll be ready!?

didn't think it'll take over 4 weeks to prepare it. lame

It's not the preparation that took 4 weeks, that in itself is fairly quick. A day to do, a couple of days to get to the front of the line.
It's the time it takes for the car to clear customs and quarantine that takes 2-3 wks.

ah i see, yeah i was under the impression it took 2-3 weeks since arrival to prepare.

still, it's killing me waiting this long.

haha - yeah, it's the home stretch that really takes it toll on you... Soon enough it will be yours..
and yes, the black 5dr manual is the way to go...

I hope so too. Although I am not holding my breath about getting a call from my dealer until they are ready to hand it over.

Yeah. It's not like dealers know much more than you about what's going on until they actually get your car in their yard. Before then, it's all in the hands of the logistics company (Patricks?), and they move in mysterious ways.

Is there such a thing as a "Premium" or "Preferred" Dealer ?

Do they get their cars bumped up in the que or special order treatment ?

I ordered mine about 3 weeks before Beaker did. Mine from the newer dealer in Canberra, his from the more established dealer. The cars are different in specs but not massively. Both cars built in the same week. HIs put on a ship a few days after build and due in OZ end of May. Mine left a week or so ago and not due till about 14th June.

Why, when both cars built the same time, going to the same Port and heading to the same town, but different dealers, they aren't coming together?

Preferential Treatment for the existing Dealers orders ?

Not complaining as such (frustrated maybe), but curious. Might be of interest to others when purchasing.

I reckon they'll keep it for you mate! I might get mine before you then. My dealer said that it could be as quick as 10 days after it docks that they'll hand the keys over... I don't it expect it before the end of June in reality though. I'll be on leave, which I'm taking to watch the world cup so it should cap off the holidays!

Thanks mate... the car is due to land in Melbourne on the 08/06... add 3 weeks and we are looking at the 29/06. I return on the 03/07... will inspect the car then and hand over the number plates... hopefully it will be able to pick up on Monday 5th July...

From my limited experience in logistics and the complexities they have to manage, I'd be surprised if the supply chain catered for something as subjective as preferred dealers when it comes to deciding what car's made the ship. I'd guess that more likely Beaker's car got on to the ship and it was filled before your car got to the front of the line.

Mine landed 3/5, I need it delivered on the 21st as i have organised a trip to bathurst that weekend, and a work trip to jindabyne the following week. The dealer seems to think it is tracking well for a delivery prior to this date.

Its pretty cool how you can track it coming up the bay. Your boat is just off Sandringham, so you'd be able to see it by now.

You'd hope it is still afloat! It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get our cars released and delivered, especially given yours also has a road trip. I notice some posts lately that indicate cars are being delivered within about a week after arriving.....but not getting hopes up.
