Yes it is a $500 option and is available now on RCD510, originally RVC was only available with RNS510. Obviously this is only visual and doesn't include audible distance warning. One option I did try and get was Xenon lights but these will only be available on GTI, GTD and R. Maybe someone will import an aftermarket version before long.

Has anyone tried the cheapie xenon conversion kits such as this one on ebay? I have no idea about these sorts of things, in terms of installation effort, and how good they'd look?

Whilst alot of ppl do upgrade their halogens to Xenons using such kits from ebay, it is generally not recommended for two reasons

        1) They are illegal and thus potential of being slapped with defect notices

        2) Halogen reflectors are not designed for Xenons. Since Xenon bulbs projects light differently from Halogen bulbs, you are going to get a whole lot of light scatter if you simply do a straight swap from Halogen to Xenons. This pisses off oncoming drivers and reduces the effectiveness of the Xenon bulbs. The reason why Bi-Xenon options generally cost so much in the first place is because the entire headline housing is different from a car equipped with standard Halogens. Cars equipped with Bi-Xenons generally also have washer jets installed to clean the headlights.

Great article on www.my-gti.com that covers this topic:

Your base is a tad higher and the spreadsheet doesn't account for tint/mats/plates since these items are usually throw-ins or (in the case of tint) done much cheaper by someone other than the dealer. If you were to factor those things in then it would be closer to your calculated 8.25%; however all the deals in the spreadsheet are calculated without them.

Small matter though, now that the deal is done you have but one thing to look forward to: your new car!

Please don't get turned off the Skoda brand because of one individuals point of view. I would like to think the brand is stronger than that, as for this thread being for buyers only i can't agree with you there. I would like to think is was for everyone who is a part of the new car buying process. The more educated dealers are on your knowledge base the less likely they are to 'try
one on' which seems o be the greatest frustration of most posters here, having to start at a silly point and then negotiate back to reality.

The more knowledgeable w all are the less time will be spent mucking around with negotiating and more time enjoying the experience.

Skoda Convert you may need to RELAX a little, hell will freeze over before selling cars becomes a respectable occupation so it is really unnecessary to be on here bashing people about it. I like what i do and i love the brands i do it for, if i didn't i would find something else. PassatB6 you are entitled to your position, i can't say i agree i just hope one day someone actually does the right thing by you in every respect when you are purchasing the next new vehicle.

Anyways here's the spec 103TDI, DSG, Sports Pack Cloth (mainly for the seats) + ACC + reversing camera, RCD510 with MDI, rubber mats floor and boot, tinted windows, premium plates, all on roads. $42500. Build week 41 so I may get it by years end, my last VW purchase was a new 1977 Golf GLS 1.6 so looking forward to this one.

I bought a Mk5 2L TDI DSG new in 2005 and I have never regretted it. I tossed up between the FSI and TDI. My friend bought the auto FSI at the same time for his wife, but she has only done 20,000Km since. I am up to just under 70th. Average 6 liters / 100Ks around town, on a run 4.3

I am not sure about the "less chance of speeding" though as it flies. The police on the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast have an unmarked metalic grey one also.

                    • Im interested in the new GTI, and was just wondering, are Car Brokers worth it? I've never used one before - has anyone else? Will they save me that much money? Any recommendations of brokers in Adelaide? Cheers.

I have used discountnewcars.com.au to get me pricing on a MarkV before. I found I could get just as much discount by putting pressure on the VW dealers myself. Just let the dealer know you are getting pricing from the other SA dealers and they should try their hardest to get your business.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I live up in the hills (ie halfway between Solitaire and Duttons at Murray Bridge).

I have used David Mckay a number of times. I think he charged around $200 but that may have increased. He saved me plenty (thousands) on previous purchases but that was not for a car where demand exceeds supply.
It also was where there were multiple suppliers of the car. I don't think there is the dealer competition locally for VW.

Based on how I price my time, he was well worth it. Service has always been first class. They can also assist with some aftermarket accesssories if you are interested.

The broker can also shop interstate but I don't like your chances of getting much off the list price for a new GTI for quite a while.

                            • Discountnewcars included a quote from the dealer in Mildura which was a couple of hundred cheaper than Solitaire which at the time was the only local dealer.

Mt Gambier are offering free flight, fuel and accomodation if you get one from down there so might be worth a call too.

Solitaire was like talking to a brick wall.
Muray Bridge gave the sob story about there being no margin in new cars.
                              Tanunda were open for discussion.

They were my own observations. You may have different luck. I would be speaking to them all and see how you go.
