I had the same dilemma so I just fired off an e-mail to the cars at CCP last night. I had a look at the stuff prodigy purchased a while ago and that seems like a good setup, though I'm confused about the wax and sealant he got. Do you use one or the other, or both?

Watching their videos, I might clay the Polo to get rid of all the crap and do sealant since its parked outside and washed less often. But do regular wax on mine. I gotta ask the guys how it interacts with the PFF/Ventureshield as well.

Last time I cared about the duco of a car, I used a bunch of meguires/autoglym stuff which cost a fortune but was a pain in the ar$e to apply, most likely I got the wrong stuff. If it's gonna take me a whole weekend to do a car then I'll pay a pro to do it once or twice a year and just stick with regular washing with an appropriate product.

But it just depends what you want to do.
If you are trying to protect your car from stone chips and scratches from foreign objects:
The ONLY method is 3M Paint Protection Film / Ventureshield Stonguard. This means that for most people, as having an entire car wrapped would cost $3000+, they'll usually only get the front portion of the car, or sometimes "all forward facing surfaces" of the car wrapped.

If you are just trying to protect your car from the sun and swirl marks and "lightly impacting contaminents" (bird poop, tar, dirt, etc):
Some type of wax/sealant/nano-coat is useful, and should be applied to ALL paint AND on top of the Paint Protection Film (making sure your wax/sealant/nano-coat is compatible with the PPF first!). But be aware that all of these will have to be reapplied at various intervals, some longer than other, but none of them are permanent.
        Corey,
this is a quote from ZAS on the Opti-coat forum that was previously linked to which explains things a bit. I don't believe it's being marketed as a permanent solution and does require re-applying regularly to maintain protection. As per your quote above, stone chip protection is different to just making it shiny and sparkly. All i want is an easy clean shiny car, stone chips are just a fact of life.

The Opti-Coat is in full swing now. The current dealers have received all the warranty documentation and we have a handful of other professional detailers looking at offering the service.

For the optional warranty, it is a lifetime guarantee for new cars treated with Opti-Coat within 12 months of first registration date, and 5 years for used vehicles (ie older than 12 months).

The warranty does require you to have the coating serviced once a year, which will probably annoy some people but we have the clients best interests in mind. Below are some scenarios that you can benefit from with our maintenance program:

Scenario 1 - You often don't have the time to hand wash your car properly and use DIY car washes or tunnel washes

Result: The harsh chemicals used at these types of places will not strip the Opti-Coat unlike other "paint protection" sealants so you don't have to worry about that. But if you drive off and let the panels air dry, eventually you will develop watermarks that will etch into the coating. The advantage of the maintenance program is that you can have the damaged Optimum coating removed at your yearly service and reapplied. The labour involved to remove the coating is not included in your service fee, however the reapplication of the Opti-Coat is.

The end result is the factory paint was protected from the watermarks by the Opti-Coat. The Opti-Coat was damaged but then reapplied and your car still looks awesome and well protected again.

Scenario 2: You don't have the time to hand wash your car correctly so you take it to the cheap hand wash places and have a coffee while they detail your car.

Result: Swirl marks. Everyone has seen this at some stage. Dirty sponges or chamois have scratched and swirled the Opti-Coat. The advantage of the maintenance program is that again you can have the damaged coating removed and then reapplied at your yearly service. Again your car looks awesome again and well protected.

There are a million different scenarios, but I hope I have explained it well and you agree that there is a method to our madness

          Not anymore they're not

Thanks for the quote though. To me, $600 for this product that needs to be reapplied every 12 months is not good value. I don't really understand how it's any different from any other of these products in this case. I'd be interesting to know what the "Service fee" is. Though I feel tthat even that "Service fee" is going to be a bit misleading because of them stating "The labour involved to remove the coating is not included in your service fee". I mean, what's the point of quoting a "service fee" if it only accounts for half the "service".

I agree that it seems it could turn into an open cheque book type situation and gives them an easy way to opt out of their warranty obligations if it's not maintained properly...... but it is shiny!

It's a new car what do you think it would look like? it looks exactly like mine when I picked it up in a few weeks it will look dirty like mine, $600 doesn't change that fact.

I use the two bucket method, wash approximately every fortnight, and never wax or polish. For my car's first birthday, I spent $300 on a highly-recommended professional detailer. The guy worked on it for 6 hours and did an exceptional job - it came up better than new. When I asked him how my paintwork was, he said it was fantastic - "whatever you have been doing - keep doing it".

I have no protectant on the paint and the car is always parked outside.

Cheers but we better wait for Corey to move all our car care posts to a new Mk6 Detailing thread otherwise these other guys are really gonna have a cry.

dave, the idea is you firstly apply the Nanolex Paint Sealant (which i believe should be similar to the opti-coat & G|Techniq which has already been discussed) and then apply the wax on top. I''ve been assured that both items are suitable for the Ventureshield so they will be going on top of that as well. Hopefully this should give the paint a good protective barrier against swirl marks and bird poop.

Hopefully by doing it all myself i will save myself a few $ and then still have product left to be able to re-apply it when required.

I've seen your posts, and others, and I already said I'll work on this. (A few pages back).
Please stop complaining. None of this talk is stopping anyone from posting pictures. If people stop talking, there still won't be any pictures, there just won't be any talking! We're not paid to moderate this forum, and there is a few hours work required in tyding up this thread. Right now, everyone has permission to talk as much as you want, because I don't have time to clean it up. I'll do that when I do have time...
