Definetly be interested in finding out pricing on this, particularly as my car is parked outside all the time.
Same here - well all day at work anyway. I just sent Mark an email to get some idea of cost & availability. If it's sub-$500 it's worth the gamble in my opinion.

      Coming Soon - Opti-coat protection

      • Hmmm. I call the BS on this then. Also because in his post he describes the exact same prep and application process as something like G|Techniq - including the "Opti-coat is then applied one panel at a time." G|Techniq, when installed on its own is actually $595 though.

Seriously, if this was actually "a 2nd clear coat", then firstly it'd be more expensive than $295. Secondly it wouldn't be applied "one panel at a time". You'd just mask up the windows and trim etc and spray it on.

I'd really love to know that it is that makes this different to any of the other "snake oil" products which these guys compare this product to and declare it as being "better".

At this point, since Opti-clear is only $295 and so is G|Techniq (when installed in combination with Ventureshield... which is STILL NEEDED regardless), I'd be going with the G|Techniq. Both products read identically apart from the fact that G|Techniq states that their product only lasts about 5 years. To me, that is what separates G|Techniq from the "snake oil". The fact that they explain what it does, but then don't make any claims about it lasting forever.

        • I'm having my Black coated as I've had gone in previous cars... Took dealer up on their offer which coats both inside (worthless) and outside (very worth while). This seems to be a hot thread at the moment but find it hard to follow. Corey, so your suggestion is G/Techniq?
          thank you in advance...

Except you have to be in Sydney to have both done? I found a mob in Melbourne that do the G|Techniq but not ventureshield.

Wonder if we can get Ozicozi to come down to Melbourne again if we get a few cars together? (I know they've done it before)

The dealer outside coating is worthless. That's long been established. There is no such thing as some "wipe on" product which protects your car indefinitely. Even the Opti-coat marketting information states this. It's just that in that post the "installation process" disclosed by that company then seems to contradict the marketing.

If you're happy wasting your money with the dealer's snake oil, then all the power to you. But what it comes down to is this:
              - The only products which form a "physical barrier" are 3M Paint Protection Film/Ventureshield Stoneguard.
              - No wipe-on product is permanent
              - In my opinion G|Techniq seems to have all the same advantages of Opti-coat, plus the further advantage that the company is honest with their consumers and doesn't claim it lasts forever, and states that it will need to be reapplied eventually.

              • Glad someone else has jumped on board!

Considering they aren't removing windows/trims and can go over glass etc it was never going to be a "clear coat" put on the car plus the average clear coat a panel shop would use on your car would generally cost them $150-200 bucks alone and up depending on brand. Throw in the prep work required to actually do the work and the material costs I can't see them making any money if they were actually spraying your car with any kind of paint.

If people are willing to hand over up to $500 bucks just for the sake of it I am going to have to start up a new business, be a millionaire in no time

                • Yeah. I've covered this many times, and maybe it's time to separate this out into a separate thread.

But it just depends what you want to do.
If you are trying to protect your car from stone chips and scratches from foreign objects:
The ONLY method is 3M Paint Protection Film / Ventureshield Stonguard. This means that for most people, as having an entire car wrapped would cost $3000+, they'll usually only get the front portion of the car, or sometimes "all forward facing surfaces" of the car wrapped.

If you are just trying to protect your car from the sun and swirl marks and "lightly impacting contaminents" (bird poop, tar, dirt, etc):
Some type of wax/sealant/nano-coat is useful, and should be applied to ALL paint AND on top of the Paint Protection Film (making sure your wax/sealant/nano-coat is compatible with the PPF first!). But be aware that all of these will have to be reapplied at various intervals, some longer than other, but none of them are permanent.

                  • thank you for the input and clarity... will go next door and ask what the Signaroma people will do it for. had a rap quote done for my Caddies, came in at around 5k per, but that was with design work and four colour separation.
i'm concerned about the black getting the swirls...

reduce swirls by using microfibre when you wash & dry it and wash and dry in a single direction...

                      • thank you Silvrfoxx, have owned black cars before and used kero to wash, worked very well, driving for the next day was deadly due to fumes....... latest addition is '08 C-200 which has the Protection. I haven't needed to replace in two years and it really works against swirls and guano, but not against chips.
I went next door and talked to Signarama about a complete 3m rap for my Black. he quoted 1650 including to cover complete car.
                        I think I am paying 1200 for interior/exterior Dealer.

$1650 for 3M Paint Protection Film to cover the ENTIRE car (as opposed to a "full kit", which usually just covers the front bumper, grill, lights, half bonnet, half front guards, mirror covers, door cups and upper edge of rear bumper?). And it includes preparation and labour too?

If so, that is the best price I've ever seen, by almost $1000. Are you sure he wanted you publishing that on the internet? It wasn't just some special deal because you've already spent $10k+ with them?

                              lol.

                              • Corey_R, didn't go with the raps on the Caddies, went with decals for 1800 each. raps are great if colour separation is needed, otherwise the far cheaper laser cut decals are the G O... (yes paint fade is a problem)... oh yes, try to stay on topic please, mediators will come down hard on ya....
that said you could be right about quote and no I didn't mention I'd spout lyrical to the world and beyond. remember with the 3m film there is no printing... thinking,,, uuummmm the Black on Black picture of the B/B upgrade thats on the web had a very cool TRON thing going on.
