Has the front windows been tinted or are you having that done later? They look darker than normal but not as dark as the rears, then again it may just be the bush beside the car that makes them look darker.
Thanks Prodigy, the fronts haven't been tinted yet, I was going to get Wangara to do it, but wanted to collect it on Friday so will get it done next week to try and match the rears and UV coat the rears at the same time.

These two posts belong together. Prodigy's observation that the front windows (which are not tinted) already look slightly tinted, is why some companies "35% VLT" tint actually ends up being 28%. It's because those companies do not take into account the fact that glass often already has a mild tint from the factory. In the Golf's case it's a very light shade of green tint.

      • Caught up with a work mate of mine who happens to have the same car as I do except in black and DSG. Went for an awesome drive up into the hills - about 200km.

        Hope you enjoy the pics.

Seems like a better idea than the fony "paint protection" liquids/sprays/sealants that dealers charge you a $1000 for and other places charge you ~$400 for, and whilst it sounds as though it will offer better protection from dirt and bugs and even swirling during washing, it's still not a physical barrier like Paint Protection Film is (3M/Venturesheild etc). Out of interest though, how much did it cost? Depending on cost, something like this might actually be a great solution in combination with a "partial" PPF kit.

The pictures look fantastic! RB just looks great in the sun

Sounds like a waste of money, you have big, well known automotive paint companies spending millions of dollars trying to produce better paints that are more resistant to scratching, failing, marring and stone chipping etc yet this company can do it with a spray on clear coat... yahuh

The example picture in that thread that's linked to, that's how it looks when you apply clear over a prepared surface, what am I missing? you could take a car with failing clear coat to a paint shop and get it fixed and they will treat the surface exactly the same way if you wanted it done on the cheap.

One thing I have noticed about the VW paint is that it's pretty hard compared to other cars I have owned, requires a fair amount of work to remove any minor scratches.

                • Yeah - that's why I say that it'd just depend on how much it cost. One of the issues with newer cars, is that the clear coats are becoming thinner and thinner. This is probably due to "green" (environment) improvements and also padestrian crash testing more so than just "reducing costs". So if you were to do this on a brand new car before it had a chance to get any chips/scratches/swirls, that'd leave more clean coat present for you to polish off later.
But yeah - it'd just depend on cost. Cause otherwise you're best to just wrap the car if you are genuinely interested in protecting your paint.

Looks great but the cynic in me thinks of it as another snake oil type product. I do like the idea of having the wheels coated in something that allows for easier cleaning but not sure its worth spending all that money?

I'd like to see an RB R with the ventureshield fitted before pulling the trigger myself, as I still have concerns about the look.

Interestingly, the Melbourne installer (ozishield) said they wouldn't do full panels when I asked about the bonnet unless you could provide a 100% dust free room etc.

What sort of concerns do you have dave? Is it particularly just with it on the RB? I've heard it is even less noticable on the darker colours. I'll be getting ventureshield fitted to mine the day after i pick mine up do i'll post some pictures up unless Corey gets his done before me.

My installer has insured me that he can do the bonnet in one full piece although he has also mentioned to keep in mind that he doesn't have a 100% dust free environment.

                      • Just like to see it in person to confirm that it doesn't make the paint job look a bit duller etc. If it was done, I'd have pref to have the whole bonnet and front quarters done so you don't see the lines but the installer said he won't guarantee a perfect job. Haven't found anyone else who does it in Melbourne.

Pretty sure Fab has had it down now, so I really should get off my ar$e and go catch up with him (but then I'll know what Stage 2 does and regret it hehe)

                        • Yeah - there's a few guys have that ventureshield on their cars now at work. I send people who ask about the product out to look at the cars. Half the time they come back saying that they couldn't find the car since they looked and there wasn't anything there. I then confirm they found the car with the right numberplate and they say yes... so there you go

As for the 100% dust free environment, yeah, I don't think anyone does. But then, I don't know why having it done on a full of half panel would make any difference there. Surface Tech in Sydney say that they won't do installs (whether full or half) if there environmental conditions are not appropriate (too hot/too cold/too windy/etc).

In any case. If it's good enough for Ferrari, it's good enough for my Golf

                            • Well I'd have thought a partial piece be harder to install than a full panel so not sure why its the case.

Ozicozi pointed me to ozishield in vic when I asked, but who is the main distro in AU? Do you know of a list of authorised/recommended installers or is its just randoms getting the film and installing it?

Definetly be interested in finding out pricing on this, particularly as my car is parked outside all the time.
