  • I'm not sure why people think white cars look less dirty. White is obviously one of the first cars to show dirt and dust, because it's WHITE! (just like white carpets, or shirts, or sheets, etc).

I think if you truly want a car which hides dirt, you'd go with a car which shares tones with what you're trying to hide. Dirt and grime on cars is grey and brown (depending what you've picked up), so grey cars and reds are logically (and scientifically) less likely to show that they're not clean.

An example. Road tar, and dead bugs are FAR MORE obvious on a white car than black. Dirt, especially brownish/red can is far more obvious on white than a red car.

another example, blood of the road kills will be hardly visible on a red car right ?

but Ihave to say white cars a lot cleaner then black ones ... dirt just pops out on a black ones ... so unless u have fully covered garage dont even think about black they look good but damn hard to keep clean ... as far as white goes I can not explain it but they do look like they can handle a bit mroe dirt till it starts to stand out as dirty...

      • My Current car is white and I can say it can handle a few weeks without a wash much easier than a dark coloured car can.

After reading Coreying's post I'm starting to wonder if I should have got my GTI in poo brown instead!

        • Silver seems to hide dirt very well, more than expected.

With my current dark blue, it shows dirt but not too badly.

          • My last cars have been shadow blue, silver, white, dark blue & maroon. The cars that appeared to be cleaner for longer were the white and silver cars. That is until they get droplets of water on them and then the dirt on the lighter cars is more noticable - lucky in Adelaide it doesn't rain that often.

So why am I buying Carbon Steel this time - my wife chose the colour under agreement that I chose any or all other options. Have to agree with her colour choice though.

Hey don't laugh! VW are basically the last of the German brands to offer "Poo Brown Metallic" in their cars! Merc, Audi and BMW all offer that again on their higher end cars! Apparently it's the next black

              • Thought I'd join in again.

Since last here properly I've made a few small changes to my car.

Added 18" MTM Bimoto wheels (with PS3 rubber), lowered the car slightly (15-20mm) on H&R Clubkit and added a few small interior mods too.

                  • Nice.. Liking the gear surround.. Don't really like chrome blingy stuff.. Too much to dazzle the eyes and also too hard to keep clean! What are the specs on those wheels?

The wheels are ET50 18x8, the 19s are forged apparently sadly the 18s arent, so these are around the 11-12kg per corner mark

Loving those rims Nath, looks fantastic!

Do you mind if I ask where you sourced them from, and what they set you back (roughly)? I'm seriously keen to get a set for my GTI!

                        • No probs Adam, you're the 4th thats asked

Wheels were a little under $4K landed (without rubber) and where sourced through Tuning World here in NSW the only rep for MTM in Australia I think.

If you're interested send Ross an email on ross@tuningworld.com.au and tell him Nathan with the TR GTI referred you

They have a web site but its not comleted yet so there is almost nothing on it, but they're the sister company to Ramspeed which is a high end performance parts company that deals in mods for high end european cars, for VW they deal with ABT, Tuning World does others which includes MTM

Thanks very much Nath, I may well shoot Ross an email about them. Still, I must admit, they do something I've not seen any other rim do (other than look perfect on a MkVI) - make VW's dealer accessory rim prices look competitive!

                            • haha, well in Germany they're only EU$1500 plus rubber you get slugged with shipping, duty and GST on all that plus the importers profit line so it adds up.

and they are nothing compared to the ADV F7s I was looking at $7K landed without rubber

you have to pay for quality I guess
