Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Trim pieces Golf R MK6

Need to know if the trim pieces are affected by de-vulcanizing
especially around the driver side where my knee rubs up against it sticky as .This was the way I bought from
the original owner.I did get a replacement and also door handle trim piece suffering the same fate

How easy are they to take off?
Is it just plastic tools to pop them off.

    AS seen in attachment

    cheers

Thats just wear and tear from the previous owner(s). You can replace those parts.

The door trim piece just clips off. You will need some of these trim tools to make life easier and to prevent any further damage.

The dash piece is mostly clipped in, but from memory (i used to have a Mk6 R about 10 years ago) there might be a few screws around the ashtray/gearstick boot area and also possibly behind the a/c controls.

But yes, both parts are quite easily replaceable. Part numbers will be on the back of the actual parts for you to Google and find replacements.

I tried to buy replacements from VW but only one side is still available, so instead I tried a set of PC-ABS ones from AliExpress:

The fitment is almost perfect, much better than I expected.
