  • During the week, I was thinking about getting new tyres.

Was on factory Michelin Primacy for almost 25,000 kms and was thinking of getting some of their new Pilot Sport 3's - they've had great reviews.

Shopped around over the phone, prices ranged from $250 to $350 (!!!!) per corner... not sure how there can be so much difference between retailers??

So I was driving along today and I apparently drove over a piece of metal... tyre pressure warning light... flat right rear tyre... changed to spare (wasn't raining for once - thank you Melbourne).

This was enough motivation for me to bring forward the purchase of the Pilot Sport 3's to "right now" - the guys at Bob Jane T-Marts on Nepean Highway, Moorabbin matched my cheapest price over the phone and put them on in 1.5hrs on a Saturday arvo (good service).

The handling, dry and wet, is UNREAL and it's so much easier for the car to put the power down with all the new grip (they almost don't slip over tram lines...)

Hands down best tyres I've had - well worth your consideration.

        • Oh nice... you have the Thule bike carrier that I have just ordered! I need the side arm one as the one I have does not fit the frame of my Marin due to the rear suspension.

Yeah I went the Prorack's as I liked the sleek design and the flush edges.

                    • Our new number plates arrived damaged today.

So i had to lodge a claim through Aus post for damage goods and now i could be waiting for another 2-3 weeks to get new ones.

                      • Installed a 64GB Solid State Drive into my RNS-510. Let's see how long it takes to fall over, if at all.

                        • Badass. Is the load and seek time almost gone now?

                          • It's still taking a while to copy songs to the HDD, but I'm copying about 32gb in 1 hit from an SD card. Slight improvement in speeds, but I'll have to see what it's like when I'm navigating through the menus and skipping tracks etc. It's a hell of a lot quieter though, in fact, it's silent.

You have to strip the entire unit down in order to access 1 of the 4 screws holding the HDD in place. Every circuit board and panel needs to be removed. It's an intimidating job. Need to make sure you have a long and narrow T8 driver for the 2 screws on the heat sink. Other than that, it was just some care and patience.

                            • Nice one. I surprised you were game enough to open up the headunit.

How can you tell it's silent? With the exhaust and twintake?

                              • LOL. Good point. I've only noticed how quiet it is when it's off. Won't make ANY difference when she's running. Let's hope those seek times are better than.

I got game when I sold my other one on which was covered by a local warranty. Figured I'd better learn more about these things. Pretty comfy with safely pulling one apart (and putting it back together) now.
