Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Great to see mate, would love to see your car in the flesh.

I thought it was a write off after the little mishap a few months ago.

Thanks mate, yeah I agree. I think it would then appeal to the same market as the GTI..

                • Emptied it, vaccuumed it, put 303 aerospace protectant all over the interior, rinsed it, washed it, dried it, clayed it, rinsed it, dried it, waxed it with Dodo Juice Purple Haze, and put 303 on the tyres too. I can see myslef in it like a mirror - as well as all the swirls and little dents which were hidden under the dust.

Clean car FTW. I ran out of time after the interior of the second car - it needs some love too for the outside, maybe tomorrow...

Looks very much like a GLI.

Thanks, the car's practically a GLI what with the skirts, valance, exhaust, ride height and now rims. All I need is the grill (ohh.. And the 2.0 TFSI) for it to be complete.

After removing the stock pedals, I was surprised at how **** they actually are LOL. Don't even think they are real aluminium as they are marketed to be. The brake pedal just pulls off and is held onto the lever via from rubber nubs that slot into some holes. Accelerator is a bit of a tricky one and requires patience.

The new pedals are much grippier and after driving today after walking in the rain, i could definately notice the increased grip. I also think they look a heap nicer than the standard R pedals.

So far they are only temporarily mounted via some super strength double sided tape as I didnt want to drill into anything.

That's quite a good idea. I've been meaning to look at getting something to put over the pedals in my GT to improve the grip with wet-bottom shoes.

That particular style looks a bit too "racey" for me though.

                            • what i did with my wife's gti today

Its what i did to my wife's gti today...two days ago she noticed the that the tyre pressure light was on on upon inspection she noticed that the rear right was "flatter" looking. she thought it looked alright and proceeded to drive home, some 5k. she calls me at work to tell me the story, i said that you should have called racv to change the tyre before driving again. Nonetheless she then called and they came to change the tyre at home. so today i go to brepairs, in the hope that all the tyre needs is plug to fill the hole in the tyre. however after taking off the tyre they noticed loose rubber within that had come off from the inside wall as a result of driving on not quite right tyre pressure! Hello!!! Well they have none in stock and tell me that they may have some come in mid Jan. Out of spite to my wife i was nearly going to go home and tell she had to wait till mid Jan so as to teach her a lesson. But the Xmas spirit must have been niggling me and i called Jax tyres, they had two in stock so i went there and had the damaged one replaced. As it had only 5,000 on the clock i felt it was ok to just replace the one and not both rear.

The moral of the story...if something doesn't look right, its probably not right and it needs attention!

                              • 30K Service

Had my R32 in for its 30000km service today. Took it around to Seb @ Girraween.

                                0410541322

Car feels smoother thru the gears (6 speed manual) and chassis feels tighter.

About the only things to note were that my coolant level was rather low and chassis bolts were loose (I might be using the wrong terminology here), but in a nutshell these are the bolts that hold the car/engine/suspension/chassis together and can loosen during torque load etc, however this is normal.

NOTE: Denlo Parra quoted me $656 for this service Seb charged me ALOT less then the service.

This is the first time I've had the car serviced by Seb (previously serviced at Denlo Parra) and I'm very happy!!! Not that I had any negative experiences with Denlo, but I couldn't really see the value of spending $656 when there was nothing wrong with the car combined with the positive recommendations on the forum re:Seb's reputation for good work and a good price. I'll be seeing him again in another 15000km's.

                                Cheers
