Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes, the Toyota ran a red light...
          I kinda feel his pain.
I had a stroke on Thursday night and I'm currently recovering
in westmead. I thought that strokes were an "old persons" thing.

It happened to me and I'm only 37.
But it seems my age and the speed that was involved in my treatment
leaves the neurosergeon with high hopes for a near full recovery.

Good grief, Jason - you're a lucky boy - you could easily have found it impossible to write your post. All the best for a speedy recovery - sounds like you may have been lucky (if you know what I mean) with apparently few side effects.

Just keep a eye out for any post-stroke symptoms of depression - my Dad had some and it's not to be underestimated, as it can affect the rest of your work life (your GP should talk to you about it).

I, too thought age was the big cause, but how wrong can you be? It seems age is a very minor one. More important it seems is high blood pressure, tension, cholesterol, inactivity, smoking, drinking, drug use, diet, weight and a bunch more I can't remember.

Anyhow, go buy a lottery ticket and look after yourself mate. You still have a long life ahead!

Jesus, the World never ceases to amaze me. You are right, something for grandparents.....

Any idea what the cause was? Family history, lifestyle, etc??

              • Not sure yet. Probably a mix of stress and diet.
My weight shoulnt be a factor. But my job has it's pressures
and my cholesterol is a little high.

                They are still running tests.

                • I had a bad cholesterol check a couple of years back. I got back on my bike after nearly tens years off it. The first few outings were killer. The numbers have come down, so the hard work has been worth it.

I have now bought a road bike to do the punters ride of the Tour Down Under.

I feel much fitter now at 41 than I did at 30.

                  Good luck with the tests.

Shouldnt of They would need a good reason to reload program.
I "think" they note on work docket if ECU updated.

I drove mine with ESP off today... to see what it would be like... It can hold a rear out drift in a straight line in the wet... uummee

                          • Over the last week I have had a few things to do, comes in waves of motivation I spose.

I have was the car 4 days in a row due to the dust.

I have installed the Dieselgeek Short Shifter. Makes a considerable difference. I had to modify the shifter as the car has a different clutch slave to the US one, but the grinder saw that problem go away in a few minutes. Apart from the grinding it only takes 40 min to install.

                            Here is the modified component.

This morning I have had the rear muffler removed and some chrome tips added. I think that there is no noticeable difference on the city driving to the noise produced but will get on the highway this weekend for the drone test. Was cheaper to have the muffler removed and tip added than getting tips on to the muffler too!

Another cosmetic mod to come later in the week once I have been to VW to get some clips and then a 45K service next month.

                            • Looking good Mick.

How notchy is yours? I took a good month or more for it to settle in. Must admit it's nicer when the car warms up.

I didn't have to modify mine to get it in. That said I am pretty sure I have shorter ratios to you in my GT but I would imagine that's the cogs and not the box.

i.e. in my comfortline I remember is doing about 1800rpm at 110. The GT does about 2000rpm. Could be wheels as well though, dunno.

                              • The shifter is not notchy at all. I installed it and then adjusted it. Before the adjustment it was a little had into 1 and 2 - I'd say you need to adjust the side to side cable out from the attachment a little as it is not depressing the gate quite enough. Hard to say, but I think you can improve from what I felt as in comparison, mine is silky smooth.

The gearboxes should be externally the same for the cables and pivot. Just the bloody clutch slave that was a ball ache.

You saved enough money for your next spend mate?
