Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It stops right there, with the removing of the stickers and no. plates surrounds.
VW made the car with the badge I acknowledge that and accept that. Dealer didn’t make the car it’s not their product.
Why would you remove VW or other brand badge? Only reason behind would be you are ashamed of the brand or something very silly like that. Would you like if you give somebody something and he changes it to something else by removing parts (badge) from it and then displays that?
Yeah, and I accept the key ring with the dealer’s name and the phone number at the time of purchase, just in the case the key is lost and someone find it.

    • Haha I took the keyring off as soon as I could find a replacement one (my 'rents drive a VW with an identical key). Look honestly the Gold Coast Volkswagen sticker doesn't bother me all that much as it's subtle (look at the attachment if you're interested) and honestly they are on the top notch for service. I did however peel off their phone number and address to make way for the VWWatercooled sticker. Number plate cases annoy me because if they're on for anything more than say a month taking them off can be an issue and spongy residue gets left behind. And that crap will not come off! (Had that experience with my $500 Euro themed plates).

However the Gold Coast VW sticker is rather subtle and classy.. Not one of those massive fugly ones..

      • New Falken 452s all round. Initial impressions is that I like them better than the Continentals. Seem to be quieter on the roads around here. Got about 25K with the old tyres.

Lost our favoured Tassie TUR804 plates for some standard issue NSW yellows.

            • Attempted to clean a few small marks off the seats with some Armour-all upholstery cleaner yesterday and had a look tonight to see how they turned out, only to find not only did the marks remain, but there were also large dark blotches around them where it had dried. Got out there with some warm water and a clean cloth and have hopefully cleaned the "cleaning" crap off.

Perhaps that could be something to contact Amourall about? Seeing as the product doesn't match it's description and in fact makes it worse...

                  Man that sucks.

I know it's too late, but I reckon the Mcguiars stuff is better than Amour-All

Did you scotchguard your seats when you purchased the car? If not you could clean the seats (either professionally or hire a machine) and then use 1.5-2 cans of scotchguard to do the seats, the carpets and mats can also be done and this takes around 1.5 cans. Makes it a lot easier to keep the seats/carpets clean.

Where can you buy scotchguard in a can?
I'd like to give my mats a once over.

                            Also hardware stores.

Make sure you the mats are completely clean before you start coating or it locks in the mess, you can get the mats cleaned at a drycleaners but you might want to do the carpets as well with the scotchguard. I did my carpets and mats straight after picking up the car.

It worked ok on the trim of my mk2, but yeah it doesn't agree with the fabric on the mk5 at all. I'll have a look on their website.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time.

No I didn't, and I'm guessing they haven't been done judging by the marks that were on there as well as the aftermath of the Armour-all stuff. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely grab some asap and give the lot a good going over.

The warm water & clean cloth has worked pretty well, the original marks are gone and the dark patches left by the Armour-all are almost totally gone. I'll give them another going over and then look into some sort of pro clean followed by scotch guard.
