Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, the pics aren't the greatest. But it looks like the paint's been blended in over the top of the C-pillar quite poorly. Plus the panel gap at the right rear door.

I hope it's not the case, and it does turn out to be a decent car though. Great value for money.

If it was as good as everyone hopes it will be or looks, they would be wanting more for it.

Now that i can see the pics on my computer i can see what the other guys are talking about in regards to paint colours varying and panel gaps etc. Unless by chance its bad lighting/fluro lights playing tricks....

Doesnt look like its been well kept unfortunately. Im happy to swing past the warehouse and have a look in person if you want - its only about 5 mins away from where i work. Im an ex car detailer and i know the VW Golf's pretty well from a mechanical point of view so i might be able to save you wasting your time if it is a lemon.

Yep that panel gap at the rear door does look off.

Yeah the car is at United auctions Newcastle and I am headed up today with my dad to have a look.
If anyone is keen and lives nearby mayfield I would really appreciate it if you had a look and got back to me as I don't really have a clue about panel repairs and painting haha

Really hoping it's just bad lighting.. Maybe I should spend the $22 to get a revs check? Or is it by law they have to disclose all of that information?

But then again pointing out all these problems could make the price go down? Hah [emoji13] after all it's still a massive upgrade from my mk4 golf

As far as I am aware, a Revs check won't show up any crash damage unless it's been through an insurance company and been deemed as a write off/repairable write off.
Will definitely show if money is owing and if the car has been stolen at any stage in life.

Best bet is get a good mechanic to go with you. You can get NRMA to do it to I believe.
                  Good luck :thumbsup

revs check won't tell you if the car has had a few minor bumps / repairs.

The seller doesn't have to disclose any of that. It's up to you to inspect the car & decide if it's fair value for money (it IS the cheapest GTI on carsales). Sometimes you are better off waiting or looking at $12-13k cars and making a good offer rather than aiming at the cheapest ones.

Or look at alternatives like a Skoda Octavia 1.8tsi or the vRS.

                      Oh really ? Fair enough,
I still think it could be a bargain like tbh if it's got a slightly different colour panel that's fine by me as it's not gonna be a show car, but if it's got problems then it's a definite no.

The reason for the paintwork needs to be established. There's enough cars out there that you should buy it as it's the cheapest available.

Red paint can be the worst for a visual point of view. I'd be after something which is very original in the paint department. The mechanicals are easy to fix in my eyes.

Sorry I keep pressing send before I'm finished a message haha

Engine bay and mechanicals looked the goods, the rear bumper is just the stock black plastic one that someone has resprayed red.
Full of ants for some reason. Interior looked pretty good aswell except for the drivers side floor mat which was torn

Sounds like it has been poorly looked after. There have to be better examples out there. Save your money and bide your time.
