RNS 510 Navigation

Has anyone here taken delivery of their new vehicle with a factory fitted RNS 510.

If so how well does the navigation work as opposed to something like a navman or TomTom, is there any more detail in the RNS 510 maps as this is a DVD which is signifincalty larger than a 1GB SD card containing maps.?

I have BUT after 2 weeks i still haven't received the DVD for the maps!

I contacted the service department of the dealer that I have ordered my Golf from.
It hasn't got a rns510 fitted and asked if they would fit it after delivery
yes.. for $3490.00 I like you would like a list of what they can do.. Also I have read that each car comes with the wiring loom to suit the vin order I.E only wiring to suit what you have ordered.:

RNS510, well the touch screen is kaput so can't even enter the pin code.

the diesel sounds nice!

Good question. The answer is no it only has the bluetooth antenna.
This had me thinking a couple of weeks ago. Is this premium.??

When i purchased it the main thing i was looking for was the full compatibility with the RNS510 and the MFD.
Somewhere i saw somethng regarding the touch screen dialling on the 510 screen as well as calling numbers from your phone book and the fact that the system uses RSAP. This is what lead me to believe that it is the premium i have.

Either way, for me it doesnt really matter as it is only the full compatibility with the 510 and MFD that i was really looking for and it does have this.
If it uses the RSAP then thats a bonus for phone battery life. If it doesnt then no big deal really.
Other than the RSAP there is no other difference between the std and premium BT that i know of.

When i get my car i will let you know exactly how it performs.

Mr X - what version of maps/DVD did you get supplied with your RNS 510?

I'm 100% sure it will be Version 1 however VW are sending me Version 14. I argued saying how could we possibly be at version 14 when the RNS 510 has only just been released in OZ.

I've also read somewhere that Version 14 maps are for the old system and not compatible with RNS 510 - does anybody know for sure?

Seem touch screen is cactus.

I have been assured just after Easter for the replacement.

Does the box have an IMEI (phone serial number) number on it?

If it uses Sensis (Whereis) mapping, the latest is V14 - just got a copy for my wife's Euro Accord.

From their website:

I also looked at the Sensis site and I think Version 14 is for the old version of sat nav

I'm confused because a fellow forum member scanned-in the DVD and coversheet that he received for his RNS 510 and it is Sensis (Whereis) Version 1

He pickup his car 2 weeks ago...He got RNS510 but no dvd map..

The dealer told him that it came preload and no more DVD map....

If he want it. He need to buy separately..

Is it true??
