Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well she gives me **** because I'm very cautious parking, overly so. I have one blind eye and I lack a bit of confidence parking, but the funniest thing is I can place the car within an inch at racing speeds but let me park and I think about it so much I freak myself out...

        I'm a girl and I curbed my R32 wheel

        Hello...this is my first post....

Just about 2 hours ago I curbed my right front wheel too..at Bondi Westfield Woolies carpark entrance

        So mad with myself &^%%#$@$#@!

Think I hit the top edge of the curb at the entrance right after the ticket machine and it's taken off about 10 cm bit of outer rubber of the tyre then scratched the rim (where the rubber contacts the rim round edge) coming off the curb. Definitely felt myself going over the curb on my back wheel too. I've checked the tyre twice now and the pressure seems to be holding.

I've been reading this forum for a long time and came straight here to search and found different quotes of the stock Conti tyre ($800+ and $400+).
Does anyone know of a reliable wheel/tyre place near Bondi? I don't really know much about cars and their mechanics so would appreciate some advice.

        This is so painful...

        TIA.

Ooohh ... Nyanya. Welcome to the forum ... wish it was under different circumstances. Good luck with your tire/wheel repairs ... I'm sure someone will give you a good place to check that out on here shortly.

            Thanks Dave.

I've been reading a lot on this forum and probably should have joined earlier. Didn't know much about VW or the R32 when I got it a year ago so this forum has been very informative. Well done!

I couldn't wait and was worried about the condition of the type.

Finally found a Bob Jane in Bonidi Junction this morning after going to a few garages that were closed for the holiday season.

At first, there was this guy, he took a look and asked if there was a leak. So I said no cos it was from last night and it was still ok this morning. Then he said it's fine. No need to replace it cos it's just a scar. But it was more than a scar! It was more like a wound with dry scab falling offing except for bits that were still hanging on.

So then he got another guy and this second guy said it had to be replaced. Well he seemed more senior and knew what he was talking about so I had it replaced.

Maybe it was in my head and the first guy was right but wasn't going to risk the car or my life!

So for anyone looking for a quote for the stock Conti on the R32, I paid $495 for the tyre and $40 for the alignment. Expensive curbing..

Thanks for letting me whine here

Better to pay $495 now and have safety and peace of mind than try and save the money and having something go wrong +/- the inconvenience.

Plus, i'd also say, if you can afford an R32, then a tyre @ $495 is part of the cost of owenrship! Not meaning to offend, but to give perspective.

I've always carried the notion that any time the sidewall is damaged of a tyre time to get a new one!!! Regardless if its just a small nick or a nice big gouge. An thats just the fun of owning any car.. pleasant trouble... pleasant to drive.. trouble to fix when they f' up!!!

That was certainly my thinking with replacing the tyre that the missus 'got'. It may have some value as an emergency spare, but that's about it.
