Most people find the climatronic speed reading agrees pretty closely with a GPS speed, whereas the speedo always reads faster (by varying amounts, which can be different at different speeds) depending on the individual car).
And yes, the most popular theory is that VW deliebrately do it so they can't be sued by people indavertantly speeding and also to comply with the ADRs etc which also say someting about speedos not reading "slow" (reading faster than the true speed is OK apparently)
It's not a theory, it's a fact that VW do it to meet ADR 18/03 which is based on UNECE 39/01 rev 1 which many countries around the world adhere to.
The full story is here including a copy of VW TSB's on the "issue" along with the fix.
Yup, Hold down "econ" button, and press the up vent (next to recirculate). Both temp displays will read 00 or 00 0, and you can release the buttons once they do.
Twist the LEFT temp knob clockwise until it reads 19 0.
Twist the FAN knob unti the left temp reads 19 1 (like 19.1).
The right temp display is now a digital speedometer!
When I do this, both displays show an "¡0" on both displays. No amount of knob twiddling changes the displays.
I made sure I had dual zone and AC on. Anyone know what I'm not doing right?

Sounds like the correct procedure. Is the aircon on auto as well? Don't know if it should matter, but mine usually is on 'auto' 20deg and the aircon speedo works for me...

Haha same.. The Gateway can be a bitch sometimes.
But I just took my Jetta out for a drive and it's so cool! It just shows how off the actual speedo is.
Kudos to the person who found it!

hey guys since the gt sports have factory boost gauge is there anyway to get the boost pressure to show up on using climate control read out?
Not in the climate display but if you have the full display there is a Kufatec addon which you can get either by itself or as part of the Bluetooth adaptor to display Oil temp, Coolant temp, Absolute Manifold pressure, fuel remaining.
There is definitely something going on if I press the AC button and then try the various aircon mode/directional buttons at the same time. AC light flashes together with mode light and twisting left temp knob adjusts right temp at different rates but does give decimal point in display.
So I guess this info is there. Just need to know how to access it. Maybe "hidden" in manual documentation but I doubt it.
Perhaps I could speak to the service guys and see if they can help out.
Maverick. Where are you when I need you?
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.
