  • Check speed using Climate Control Read Out

    Guys,

I read on another website that it's possible to get the accurate SPEED reading of your golf via the Climate Control readout.

Does anyone know how to do this???

As we know the GOLF GTI 07 speedo is alittle off, i just wanted to check how off.

    Thanks,
    Larry

Yup, Hold down "econ" button, and press the up vent (next to recirculate). Both temp displays will read 00 or 00 0, and you can release the buttons once they do.

Twist the LEFT temp knob clockwise until it reads 19 0.
Twist the FAN knob unti the left temp reads 19 1 (like 19.1).
The right temp display is now a digital speedometer!

For Tachometer turn FAN clockwise untill it reads 19 3.

to cancel just hit the econ button again.

    LowVeeDub

    Sorry 19 0 is kmh 19 1 is mph

It does heaps of measurements too i'll try and dig em up.

On the freeway i set the cruise to 110 on the speedo, real spead is about 102-103. Perfect, no ticket.
Ive found that the speedo is about 9% out.

                          select dual air-con zones first

Please note this feature requires that you have selected dual zone air-con, too. Correction - this is not necessary.

                          Very cool (no joke intended).

Interestingly, I've also found the difference is usually a little under 10%. Are we saying VW deliberately 'enhance' the normal speedo readings, but the 'digital' speedo is more accurate because it is the 'raw' data?

Another way to check your speed more accurately is to use the MFD.

                            From GTI.com . .

. . . go to the speed alert screen, press ok until three dashes show and clock ok, the warning speed is your . . . [actual] speed. This is a static display so use cruise control on a flat level surface.

Most people find the climatronic speed reading agrees pretty closely with a GPS speed, whereas the speedo always reads faster (by varying amounts, which can be different at different speeds) depending on the individual car).

And yes, the most popular theory is that VW deliebrately do it so they can't be sued by people indavertantly speeding and also to comply with the ADRs etc which also say someting about speedos not reading "slow" (reading faster than the true speed is OK apparently)
