Old post, but just so it's out there, in a diesel there are no coilpacks, plugs or ignition system at all. The coil light on the TDI's will be for your glowplugs, that heat up and help the diesel engine start. Let that light go out when starting, it's letting you know they are getting up to temp!

I'd highly advise anyone with a 125kw GT TDI or Passat TDI to check the Injector thread failure threads in the diesel section. I'd also highly advise anyone considering buying any PD MKV 125kw TDI to read these threads. Very wide spread and common problem, and all that entire line of Siemens injectors are failing in the Audi's, Seat's, Skoda's and various VW's. VERY expensive problem if out of warranty, and the car will simply stop, no matter what speed you are doing at the time. MAJOR downer to an otherwise glorious VW experience.

          • on my 3 door mkv

            1. i had the boot rubber seal leak water in the boot and sit in the spare tyre well.

            2. also, due to the same reason, i had both seals on rear lights go and hold water! like half the light full of water! i'll post some pics when i head back home!

            3. the window switches on the drivers door started to peal.

no real damage, had everything fixed under warranty!

NOW, there is a rattling noise coming from the drivers door, cant really locate, but i presume its coming from the part that was pulled apart when fixing the switches?

            • On my 08 GTI 5 door:

              1. left rear passenger door won't unlock and can't open from either outside or inside for a while and magically fixed itself.

              2. engine developed high pitch whistle noise, had a search in the forum here and appears to be either water pump or PCV valve?? and local vw dealer won't have time to look at it until august

been out of warranty now for a while though, which is a worry. Love the car nonetheless though.

                • Starting and power problem!

Hey all im new to the VW world and so far having major drama's, Bought my 05 2.0tdi golf a month ago private sale and it seemed to be a great car but when I put my first tank of diesel in it after driving a few hours (2200 from melbourne to home) I found it has a terrible starting problem. Its almost like the engine is trying to jump out of the engine bay every time I start it when the car is at running temp. Next I find its going into limp mode wich I had no idea what that was so pulled into a vw dealer and they said it was dirty fuel and not to worry about it, anyway iv taken it to a few mechanics around the sunshine coast and they are all hopeless at diognising the problem and are all just saying oh we will replace the turbo and see if thats it... Im really hoping someone on here can give me some pointers before I spend the 3k on a new turbo! Please someone help me lol

                      Hi Lockie

I'm not a mechanic but work in a workshop.

My first opinion is goto VW or a Euro/VW specialist in your area and get the car scanned for fault codes (should explain the going into limp mode).
Starting issue could be various amounts of things such as dirty fuel filter, fuel pump and battery etc

If the turbo has failed there would be no acceleration power when you put your foot down but this will not work if in limp mode anyway.

                      Good Luck.

                      • You could also get someone with a VCDS to scan it for error codes, I think there is a register of people with them somewhere on here or on vwgolf.net.au.

Does it still start, drive and **** down OK? if so - I Had that one year or so ago - Replace Throttle body (something to do with the EGR I think) cost the extended warranty 800 odd $

                          • Two notable problems so far in my three months of owning the Jetta.

Some facts; Car is used, has just ticked over 50,000kms, serviced when required, still has 1 year of manufacture warranty and 3 years extended when that runs out, 2009 model TSi with DSG.

-Last weekend while driving I overtook a car, I obviously needed to speed up. I only depressed the pedal about 80%. Around 5 mins later my check engine light was blinking, on idle the car was rough. I immediately assumed it was misfiring. I pulled over to the nearest petrol station, luckily there was a service center there with mechanics for a second opinion. My initial thoughts were right, it was running on three cylinders.

-I've noticed prior to the misfiring, the car was taking off and shuddering under moderate pedal load. If it didn't happen during take off it would occur during the second gear transition.

I've flagged both issues to my nearest VW service center (it was towed at no cost by calling VW Assist).
It's been there for a week and they are still diagnosing the problems. So far they've found fouled plugs.

Any ideas on how long these issues should normally take to resolve?
Also if anyone has similar issues with the shuddering take offs and gear transitions?

                            • I am interested to know what the fix was... my son's car (diesel) turned out to be the EGR system.

                              • Hi guys

I've just got a gt tdi 07 model with 110000 on the clock. Driven it on the highway today my glow plug light started flashing and car started to lose power. Pulled over and switched off and on again, was ok but now the turbo doesn't kick in in third gear(6 speed manual). Got a 3 month dealer warranty on it. Taking it on Monday. Any ideas what it could be??

                                Thanks a lot.
