Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

one thing that was a factor in my decision was the exclusivity factor.
I was thinking about a R32 or the Pirelli, simply because they are a bit special.
The standard GTI is just a bit too common for me, given that it is the most sold
version in the whole MkV line-up...let's face it, many GTI's are not driven by enthusiasts but used as shopping trolleys, pensioner transport, school buses, etc...
Which is the exact reason to get one. No suspicions are aroused until they see one fly past.

That applies to all Golfs. To the uninformed they are all ecoboxes, be it an R32, Pirelli, or GTI.

On the other hand, a Scirocco would look fast, no matter what the engine.

Id have to disagree that it applies to 32's, the 18's the kit the exhaust and noise all scream look at me im fast.. The first time I really saw one go was g-rigs on riverside expressway. up until then I believed they were..

When was that, it's only a 70-80 zone there and usually traffic.

Yours must be too fast for you, how is your 1 point going ?

The R32 looks understated if anything and more like a stock Golf or Jetta. It's the GTI that sticks out from the bunch. I'm sure if you asked a group of people to pick the fastest one of the lot they'd pick the GTI even though the R32 is .7 seconds faster.

I've kind of got the same opinion, the R32 is more of the GT of the Golfs whereas the GTI the performer. Even though i'm wrong.. lol

I dont get how it could be mistaken.. bigger wheels, lower, big dual exit exhaust out the back, the R badging, the tinted tails, bigger engine? Ppl always think they are quicker than what they are.. and are surprised when I tell them that my car is quicker.. Not to mention the lack of colour coding on the GTI doesnt exactly make it look sporty

Ahh yeah that was a while ago now, wasn't sure if you were saying it was fast or slow but agree they are too heavy.

As chris mentioned there are a fair few good cosmetic differences that come standard on the r32 that help it stand out from the bunch.

You can mod whatever you don't like anyway, and personalize the look.

And how many people notice those things? Not many. And how would they notice things like the bigger engine.

The R32 uses similar trim in look to the base models and also to the Jetta. The R32 doesn't have the foglights on the front and again looks like the Jetta whereas the GTI has the agressive looking front.

Ppl always think they are quicker than what they are.. and are surprised when I tell them that my car is quicker..
Your car is modified. Stock for the GTI is 6.9/7.2. Stock for the R32 is 6.2/6.5.

.7 seconds difference out of the box so the R32 is faster.

And the R32 has AWD as well to help it handle the power.

Not to mention the lack of colour coding on the GTI doesnt exactly make it look sporty

Also keep in mind the R32 is one of the slowest cars in its class of the sub 60k bracket, a nice car just not really quick unfortunately
