Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Your car is modified. Stock for the GTI is 6.9/7.2. Stock for the R32 is 6.2/6.5.

.7 seconds difference out of the box so the R32 is faster.

And the R32 has AWD as well to help it handle the power.

Colour coding the GTI doesn't make it look sporty!
what kind of ppl are you referring to? the blind or those that actually have eyes on their head? yeah the differences are subtle but certainly cant be mistaken.. By your reasoning do you expect people to believe an omega is quicker than an sv6?

r32 has carbon fiber interior trim doesnt it? that in a factory car normally signifies a sporty model and the gti bar is no more aggressive looking than the 32's imo.. spesh with its bigger wider lower mouth

Ive said numerous times in this thread that stock for stock the 32 is quicker so I dont get what point you're trying to argue. Were you trying to confirm my statement that people were surprised when I said my car was quicker than a 32?

It sure does.. The black bits make an impression of sitting higher than it actually does.. cc also highlights the differences in the front and rear bars between the gti and other models ie the exhaust cutouts and the and the spoiler inserts.. The fact that the 32 is colour coded and the gti isnt would give the ppl the impression of a sportier more expensive car

maybe you should write a letter to vw maverick and tell them their designers obviously have no idea according to you.

    waits for thread to close..

Got the R32 and looked at the GTI - performance wise add a chip and the GTI wins being turbo.

But overall the R32 had leather, xenons, DSG, AWD, smooth ride/comfort, the looks and V6/Exhaust .... STOCK It really depends what you are after...

If you spec up a GTI to match the R32 you wouldn't be too far off the asking price of the R32...not quite the $20k difference everyone says.

yeah it's more like 10 or 12k with leather, xenons but less price diff once u factor in colourcode,18" wheels etc.

Less r32's around too so I wanted something a bit more exclusive

compared to my 1.3L Yaris, my R32 feels like a Ferrari!!

Mine is too, I had an A4 1.8t quattro with a chip (about 150kw at the fly) and liked the turbo but the r32 is faster and better.

My main aim wasn't to buy the fastest thing I could but it ticked all the boxes (a GTI would have been good too).

Not everyone looks at cars the same way you do. The discussion was centered around uniformed people.

Id have to disagree that it applies to 32's, the 18's the kit the exhaust and noise all scream look at me im fast.. The first time I really saw one go was g-rigs on riverside expressway. up until then I believed they were..

R32 has a checker plate interior trim, the GTI trim IMO looks nicer.

The GTI front end is a lot more aggressive, it's easy to confuse the front of a R32 with a Jetta at a glance.

Ive said numerous times in this thread that stock for stock the 32 is quicker so I dont get what point you're trying to argue. Were you trying to confirm my statement that people were surprised when I said my car was quicker than a 32?
I'm not trying to argue anything but the R32 is a faster car out of the box. Comparing a modified car to a stock isn't a fair comparison.

People were probably surprised at your claim after seeing the video of your run out at willowbank because it sure looks slower than a stock R32.

It sure does.. I never said nor did I suggest the designers have no idea, the R32 is a different car marketed to different purchasers and nothing I said suggested otherwise.

[QUOTE=Maverick;416021]R32 has a checker plate interior trim, the GTI trim IMO looks nicer.

The insert finish are both nice, but the gti looks quite plain around the shifter, I'm glad I got checker plate there instead of black plastic and prefer the white and blue dash display as I really didn't like purple and amber bit too many colours going on compared to the traditional all amber BMW/Audi lighting.

Im starting to wonder WHY I purchased my R32 when all I needed was an GTI.

Hmm must write a letter to VAG

Each model looks similar as they are all still a golf but most people can spot a difference pretty fast.

Same with most cars as you go Up the range.

It's good that the GTI doesn't have purple and amber because I'd hate that as well but I'm not sure how that's relevant to what's being discussed.
