    QLD legislation:

    Fog Lights:
    • Fog lamps must be capable of being switched on and off
independently of any headlamps but must only be able to be
switched on when the parking lamps are on.

As I thought - illegal to have foggies that are able to be turned on without parkers. On my cars the front foggies switches do nothing unless parking lights or dip beam is on.

    Driving Lights
Additional driving lamps must only operate in conjunction with the
    high beam circuit
and must be fitted with an independent on/off
    switch.

So driving lights should come on / off automatically with main (high) beam.

So, a car with ONLY auxiliary lights on (either fogs or driving lights) is illegal.

Note too that in the legislation the colour of the bulb (yellow / white) is irrelevant - if it's designed as a fog lamp, sold as a fog lamp, and wired as a fog lamp, it's illegal to use unless it's raining, snowing, duststorm, or otherwise reduced visibility (and no "night-time dark" does not count as reduced visibility LOL), The document above that applies to QLD states:

"except in fog or mist or under other atmospheric conditions which restrict visibility"

ahhhh come to think of it, maybe the parkers do need to be on then!!

but how do the new Audi's get away with it?? pretty sure their LED driving lights come on without any other lights.

And likewise the halogen lights are not blinding.

However what occurs when you put a xenon bulb that is designed for use in a projector housing that has a different sized element and puts out 3-6 times the amount of light?

You get a LOT of scatter and glare, this is the problem.

And it's not the point where they're using the halogen fog lights, they're a distraction, they're close to the road and reflect off the surface (especially in the wet) and are annoying at night because they don't have the same cutoff that low beams does. They're illegal to except under specific circumstances for a reason and it's not because they make the person using them look "cool".

Ahh! Different again. The LEDs on the Audis qualify as DRL I believe - Daytime Running Lights. DRLs are purely for other drivers to see you - they have absolutely no value as illumination for the driver, except if you are walking in front of the car LOL. They are actually mandated in many countries around the world. They usually have to go dimmer once your main lights come on I believe (although I could be wrong there).

The crazy thing is that in doing that (DRLs) on the S6 Audi have relocated the foggies to the height of the headlights, where foggies are about as much use as.... you get the drift.

How does this justify blinding over road users, just because someone else may be inconsiderate doesn't mean you have to be.

Please explain how you think that this is for your own security and not to harm anyone when you're blinding oncoming traffic? You don't think that a car hitting you head on is possibly the opposite of what you want to achieve?

Obviously you think so, the law says quite differently.

OK, which part of I'M NOT USING THEM ALL THE TIME!!! you don't understand, I'm not blinding anyone

If you always want to find a 'but' in everything for sure you will find it,

I'm totally agree with you about all this, but come on! we are missing the point here, I never said "My new Fogs for flash or annoy everyone on the road" it's something to share with everyone as a Club, I know the rules, and I know I must not do, all it's clear,

                Cheers! Mav

In all fairness I do drive with them on because (sorry Mav) they do look cool! I know they're illegal and I probs shouldn't but when you see the odd police car with them on (Aurions and Highway Patrol), it makes you wonder a little (I know I wouldn't stand in court).

If you're not using them for extended periods and not blinding anyone (so not using them with oncoming traffic) who not use high beam?

You can't flick the xenon fog lights off anywhere near as fast as you can flick off high breams.

Ok, you are having a bad day?, if I say yes, you are happy?, come on man!,

I'm pretty sure that all the mods that you do to your car are thinking in the wealth been of everyone else, yes?,

You are in car enthusiast club, where people enjoys in some point noisy exhausts, engines, bov valves, HID's and LED's systems installed everywhere, and other mods like increase the Kw's for their cars for what? to drive at 60k's all the time?, what is the point of your negative comments?, you said cool in one post and not cool at the other.......

YES!, we understand for some members here it's wrong, but for others it's just enjoy having a different car!

                      Cheers!

I don't do mods that affect other people, this includes illegal mods like adding xenon kits to light housings that are designed for halogen.

A noisy exhaust or BOV valve unlike illegal xenon conversions is not going to blind/annoy/irritate a driver coming the other way potentially resulting in a head on or altercation. Fitting these xenon lights also has roadworthy implications which has insurance implications, ie if you car is unroadworthy (which it is with an illegal xenon upgrade) than you can kiss your insurance goodbye as well..

YES!, we understand for some members here it's wrong, but for others it's just enjoy having a different car!
You can have a different car without pissing off other drivers, just takes a little extra thought before you do the mods. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should do it. This isn't an attack on you but if you had used the projector fog housings that are available for under $100 at least you're not going to blind other users as much.

I dont know where you get the idea that driving around with your fog light on when it is not needed looks cool, it does not.
Every time I see anyone in Perth with their fog lights on I just think 'WANKER'.

Guaranteed that's not what most people you share the road with think when you're coming the other way.
