  • DIY - Xenon Fog Lights Install

    Hi guys!

I've installed my 6000K 55W Phillips HID's on my fog lights on 2006 sockets,

I must say, if you want to get it done properly you have to remove the from bumper from my point of view, for a better attach and tied up of the ballasts,

1.- Remove the front bumber, very easy to do, removing the screws bellow the bumper, it only takes 10min,

2.- Tie up the ballasts into the chasis of the car, the angle depends of the length on the cables of you HID's

3.- Connect the HID's into the ballasts, bulbs and the 2006 sockets (on my case), my Xenon kit came with the 2006 sockets compatibility, so, I didn't have to cut any wire,

Test the connections a couple of times before you mount again the bumper,

5,- Mount back the bumper taking care that any cable could be trapped in the middle,

            And enjoy!!! total time: 2hrs

The fogs don't give flashes to the other drivers on the ther way of the road they work perfectly as drive assist,

Hey man, from my point of view I drive more in very dark places or streets than in fog banks, plus I don't like the yellow

                  Cheers!

                    Without offending you:

                    why on earth bother?

you can't legally drive with those lights on unless it is foggy.

Complete and utter waste of time and money and all you're going to do is annoy other motorists and not even improve your own vision at night because those low mounted lights are a) useless for extending or improving low beam because they're just too low and b) dont even have a beam pattern which is useful for extending low beam vision.

Hmm I thought only the bright yellow (as seen on Jap imports) fogs were illegal. And driving lights (the type mounted on bull bars etc). IIRC that's why my driving instructor told me...

looks good i like it. my fogs the way they are not are completely useless in both fog and as extra light so i'm thinking of doing something similar.

just one question; do you have the projector lens fogs or the reflector lens fogs?

Fog lights are illegal to use unless the conditions warrant then in ALL states. And the conditions that warrant them do not include cruising the streets looking cool.

Driving lights are legal to use under many more conditions, generally not in built up areas and with oncoming traffic.

you can mount pretty much whatever lights you want on your car and they're not typically illegal.

its the useage which is illegal!

the ADRs do have regulations for light spacing, height etc. but again its only for operational lights not 'fake/dummy' lights or lights which are not operational via the original headlight on/off switchgear or high beam selector in the vehicle.

driving or spot lights may ONLY be used with the vehicle's high beams and they have to be wired AS SUCH.

Lights like in the GTI which can be turned on with low beams are considered FOG lights and as Mav has said are not to be operated if conditions do not permit.

don't waste your time or money on them maca..you'll just get booked here in QLD (they can and do)
