Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You can get a pro-rata refund as long as you have not made a claim.

    • OK, thanks.
That makes sense.....like car insurance, if you cancel a policy without making a claim, you get a refund, but if you make a claim, then you cannot get a refund.....

        • This thread title should be changed to the "How to locate Rashid or Jamil".....

If he doesn't call back, try calling him again and keep going until you wear him down.

          • Rashid is out of the office until late Februrary. In his absence you can contact Nathan Viviani and he will sort you out (he honoured Rashid's quote to me a month earlier) around 1400 for my GT-TDI

              • I am looking at a 2008 GTI to purchase, it has about 5 months warranty left, can i as the second owner get the additional 3 year warranty, and is there a limit on the K's during this period, are there any limitations compared to original factory warranty.
                Thanks

All of the information you require is on the VW website.

One problem i found, you can't buy a car privately, it must be via a dealer to be able to add the extended warranty. It then becomes a used car warranty 3 years or 60K.

Would that apply to all 2nd owners? The Golf I recently bought is still covered by the manufacturer warranty and I was under the impression that I could extend it.

Also, anyone bought a warranty in QLD? Or is the warranty applicable nation wide?

I believe that only applies to the used car extended warranty -i.e. where the original warranty has expired.

If the original new car warranty hasn't expired, you should be able to purchase the 3 year new car warranty for it even if you bought the car from private sale.

                          • I just spoke to vw Aust, i can purchase used car extended warranty 3 years/60k extra. It is more of an insurance as it's done via dealer and not VW Australia.

                            • In reading the PDS it simply states that you need "a new vehicle subject to an acceptable manufacturer's warranty" and makes no mention of how many owner's the vehicle has had. The only proviso I can find is that it must be within the current warranty essentially. Admitedly I haven't scoured the site for any specifics so I could be wrong.

                              • Very interesting thread. Interestingly I was quoted prices recently from VW Belconnen that have different terms and conditions from the Allianz VW policy (1, 2, 3yr policies with 100,000klms and 200000 klms limits , ie. the purchase of a 3 year extended warrantly 200000, would mean any extended warranty would end when the car reached 200000. I am not complaining about the terms of the warranty. I know the Allianz policy for 3 year is also limited - 60,000klms. My point is I am glad this thread is here because I would not have wanted to purchase a dealer based policy, which is not the standard VW policy and other newbies should be aware that these different extended warranty offers clearly exist. FYI, I will ask the dealer for details of their policy but it clearly cannot be the VW one given the different terms and conditions. I note this issue was raised once before but the person never advised of the outcome.
