  • Yep - anywhere. And it doesn't have to be serviced by a dealer. Just a VW approved agent

    • Sorry stupid question again.. The dealer sent me an email selling the extended warranty to me before I take delivery of the new car in two weeks time. From reading the this forum, I take that people are buying the extended warranty at the end of their standard 3 years warranty?? They quoted me a discounted price of $1900 for a Tiguan.. down from RRP $2212. That sounded like a rip off to me. Can anyone provide any feedbacks?

      • Call Southern Classic and get a price and compare.

If this dealer is going to be servicing your car (and i'd think hard about going that route....) it would make sense to buy extended warranty through them as well. BUT only if they price match. I rang quite a few dealers and Southern Classic were easily the cheapest. They aren't doing me a favour - they are making $$$ still - so your dealer should be able to at least match. And yeah - you can buy it any time up to the day your 3 year warranty is over. The only reason you would buy it now is to avoid any price rises in the next 3 years.

Actually. It has nothing to do with "VW Approved Agent". The Warranty says "any suitably qualified person" so any MVRIC licenced mechanic should fit the bill.

Buy it when you want within the warranty period, from who you want. That price from your dealer is 14% off; i think Jazz & Jamil are doing ~30% off.

Hmmmm. I was quite drunk when I wrote it, and couldn't be bothered finding the warranty let alone looking through the fine print. I think the intended meaning was still conveyed. That is, doesn't have to be dealer service.

Get other quotes, if they want to match, they will ... otherwise buy from the cheapest. Its just an insurance policy so there is no need to buy from your dealer.

As others have said, the only reason you would buy now is to hedge against future price rises. Otherwise you're best off waiting until near the end of your current warranty to buy it. If you trade it in or write it off in the meantime, you won't have wasted your money on an extended warranty.

The policy is pro-rata refundable less an admin fee. So if you write it off/trade-in, etc, you get money back. Agree though, easier to wait until the last minute.

Interesting - didn't know that. Must re-read my PDS in more detail!

                    • page 8 general Conditions. Except it appears that if you have made a claim then you can't get a refund? (part d)

                      2. Transfer of the policy
If during the period of insurance you privately sell your vehicle to a person other
than a motor vehicle dealer, cover under your policy will continue with the new
                      owner, provided that:
                      a. you complete the transfer form contained in the back of this policy document
in accordance with the instructions provided; and
                      b. the person named in the transfer form as the new owner observes all the
terms and conditions of your policy.
                      3. Cancellation rights under the policy
                      a. In addition to your cooling off rights, you may cancel the policy or any part of
the policy at any time by notifying us in writing. If the policy has been issued
to more than one person each person must sign the notice.
                      b. We have the right to cancel this policy where permitted by law. For example,
                      we can cancel:
                      • if you have failed to comply with your duty of disclosure, or
                      • where you have made a misrepresentation to us during negotiations prior
to the issue of this policy, or
                      • where you have failed to comply with a provision of your policy,
including the term relating to payment of premium, or
                      • where you have made a fraudulent claim under your policy or under
some other contract of insurance that provides cover during the same
period of time that our policy covers you.
                      c. If you or we cancel the policy we may deduct a pro rata proportion of the
premium for time on risk, reasonable administrative costs related to the
acquisition and termination of the policy and any government taxes or duties
                      we cannot recover.
                      d. No refund will be provided if an incident has occurred which may rise in a
                      claim.

                      • Thank you all. I think what I will do is wait till I am close to the 3 year and call Southern Classic. Forking out enough money for the car now, don't want to pay for something I don't need for 3 years.

Good decision mate. Otherwise it's like paying for a condom now for sex you might have in three years time with someone you haven't yet met.

                          • +1 for all the positive comments for Southern Classic Cars at Wollongong.

Quoted price of $2200+ from my normal dealer for a MY07 R32 - $1474 from Kim at Wollongong by mentioning that I'm on this forum.

                            Highly recommend them.

                            Very nice!

                            • +2 for doing business with Kim at Southern Classic Cars, Wollongong.

I got my extended warranty for $1325 (I think from memory) just 5 days before it expired. I drive a Mark V GTI Golf 6spd. I couldn't fault Kim, her service was impeccable.. she answered all my questions and followed thru with everything she said she would!

Good on you Kim and thanks

                              • I rang Southern Classic yesterday (Friday) and asked to speak to Jaz but was told she's on leave (again) so I spoke to Mario who quoted me $1800 for the extended warranty on my 07 GTI with DSG. When I mentioned what some of you have paid he said it's gone up but he dropped the price to $1500.

Has anyone bought an extended warranty from Southern Classic in the last few weeks that can confirm what price you paid preferably on a DSG equipped vehicle if that makes a difference.

                                Thanks.
