    Update:

i ordered and paid for the RCD510 tonight.
the unit i bought is new (or close enough to it) pulled from a UK spec 2009 Passat CC, by an owner that upgraded to the RNS510.

in the end, i went with the RCD over the RNS, as i just cant afford to spend the extra on the RNS.

the RCD510 cost me $1100 delivered, complete with the code card and the manual.
looking forward to getting it sometime next week.
ill post pictures once i get it.

    Jason.

I got mine from Europe landed in Singapore for S$850/- . Guess if it is going to Australia...it would cost S$950 at most ( about A$865/- ) . These are second units from Europe. Brought in 3 sets for me & my "bros" . All worked like Swiss clock work without any issue. Came packed with bubble warp and sponge....no manual though. Security code issued. One thing to note though, the sets are not brand new and the appearance as you can see on my post, are not shining & new. All three showed some form of fine surface scratches probably due to the storage or handling by the previous owner.

As these are European sets, you can use all the even and odd decimal channels such as 89.9, 90.0, 91.5 or 92.2, etc. The sets from the USA or Taiwan, are US spec sets and can only tune to even decimal channels such as 91.6 or 92.2 or 89.4 etc.

Can arrange for some sets to be sent over directly to Australia !

My new 2 week old RCD300mp3 with the second RCD510

Fitted onto my MarkV 2009 GTI !

Also bought a new FISCON Pro for S$750 landed ! Work very nicely with my RCD510.

      Display on my FIS !

nice to know that you had no problems.

i paid a little extra for what is essentially a brand new unit.
it was pulled from a new 2009 Passat CC after a few weeks as the owner upgraded to the RNS510.

i could have bought an older unit at a cheaper price, but i wanted the latest version, as its suited to the new MDI.
i might want to add it at a later date.

im not sure what ill do (if anything) about Bluetooth.

        Edit:
        PS....
anyone got a link to a pdf of the RCD510 manual so i can read up while it's on the way ?

        Jason.

                    hey,

can anyone tell me if there is a way to identify the CAN gateway version of my car, with out using VCDS / VAG-COM ?

more research on the install of the RCD510 has led me to believe that i will need version L to make the RCD510 fully compatible.
i don't have access to the software or cable, so i need another way to find the version #.

                    Jason.

Congrats ! Didn't seem like too long a wait ! The set looks really brand new and shining except for the "bolt" mark on the mounting points !

Keep us posted on your quest on the version number and the VAG-COM thingy. Did not get any problem working mine on the GTI without having to do any VAG-COM.

it took 11 days from the UK to Sydney.
It looks brand new and I got the manual and code card too.

I will post my results once it's in.
At the moment, from what I have read, I'll need an antenna adaptor.
There is some difference between the RCD300 and RCD510 inputs.

Once I have that, ill install and test.

I did away with the antennae adapter by shaving off part of the brown plastic body on the vehicle harness so that both the white and brown connector can come close to fit onto the RCD510. It worked pretty well. Secured the fix with a wire tie to ensure that it would not work it's way loose. Was figuring it would be more or less a permanent connection.

                              Hi,

Stumbled across this thread whilst researching about the power drain issue for a Golf MKV GTI MY06. I was reading some posts in this thread and it seems to be different for people. Would it be possible if the people who had problems post the problem they had and how they resolved it? When my friend receives his unit soon, if he has problems, he can try some of the solutions. This would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone is interested, I got my RCD510 (used) from a seller in Queensland and his prices are pretty reasonable. I got mine for AUD$450.00 plus $40.00 S&H (within Australia), but since then he has raised the price to AUD$550.0 + S&H. Even with the price increase, it's still a good deal if you compare to other sellers. Also, I got the antenna connector from a local VW dealer and it costs around AUD$49.00. The part number is "7L6-051-551" (a link for a image of the cable http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=35076). Hope this will be useful for some people.

                              Thanks in advance!

he said that he had been pulling the radio fuse each night, and this had prevented the problem.
on re inserting the fuse, the radio remembered all it's settings, like the clock and programmed stations etc.

so, it (the problem) seems to be related to the main power lead for the radio, not the memory wire.
the solution is simple. hook a relay to power wire for the radio, the relay will be wired to go "open" once the key is removed.

problem solved, and no need to constantly remove the fuse either.

                                Hi Jason,

Would you be kind enough to provide details on how to install the relay and parts required? Will there be any side effects in doing this?

                                Many Thanks!
