Is that through "Tommy Cupra" man?

There is no evidence to suggest that there is a power drain issue.
oh, i was un-aware of the lineage of the two units.
i assumed that both were released at the same time.

so there might not be a power drain issue with the RNS510, but i know of at least two incidents that the RCD510 has caused the drain.
proved by re installing the old RCD300 and having the problem go away.

either way, i have been in contact with one of the affected owners, and together we have worked out a simple and cheap fix.
so while the RNS510 is a good unit at the prices being quoted on this thread, ill still be buying the RCD510. i simply cant spend $2K.

if i had the extra $$$ laying about, i probably would go that way, but i don't.
so the RCD510 it is for me.....

          @DeanCorp

have you got a link to the seller that you are using, and does he also have the RCD510 units ?

I wonder what they would cost to buy (not off eBay)?
I was quoted $2237 plus GST from Barloworld at Mascot last week!!

                  it's really very simple....

he said that he had been pulling the radio fuse each night, and this had prevented the problem.
on re inserting the fuse, the radio remembered all it's settings, like the clock and programmed stations etc.

so, it (the problem) seems to be related to the main power lead for the radio, not the memory wire.
the solution is simple. hook a relay to power wire for the radio, the relay will be wired to go "open" once the key is removed.

problem solved, and no need to constantly remove the fuse either.

Talk about a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

If the owner had bothered to take the unit into a VW dealer or borrow/buy/beg/steal a Vagcom/VCDS he would have been able to solve the issue which I understand is a coding issue.

I know of a similar problem when the PDC is upgraded to OPS and the CAN gateway has been upgraded and you can get a 2A power draw due to an issue with the numeric keypad needing a software update so the problem is something that can be easily fixed.

He did take it to a dealer.
they apparently told him there was nothing they could / would do about it.

so another solution had to be found.
i will ask my local dealer to look at it once i get the unit, and if they tell me the same, ill have to go the relay route.

at least i now have a solution, one way or another.

Good price but do you need to add any extra for import duties and customs fees?

that all depends on what the "declared value" is on the paperwork.

if it's over $1000, then you might be liable to pay GST on the import.
any private import under $1000 in value will not incur the GST.

or if it's marked as a "gift" its not GST assessed either.

under valuing, and gifting are both not strictly legal, but many do it.

i hope to be buying an RCD510 in about 2 weeks.
