The difference in my view is that you shouldn't post about a mod on here and just expect to get good feedback, some will not like and some will and if you don't want to get any negative feedback it's best not to post.

Perfectly summed up Maverick - your view! It's quite easy to see where my comment on superiority is based . The english language is very complex but I'm sure there are less confronting and emotional ways to put a point across at times. The words respect and consideration are a few examples that come to mind.

The support was absolutely useless, to say that 90% of emails and pm's did not get responded to is not an exaggeration and this is an ongoing problem (look at the ukmkivs forum to see the problems in there) except this company blames everyone else for having email problems.

There are no dyno's of the tunes available which points to the tunes being purchased enmass with the handheld unit, given the fundamental problems with the handheld unit after the "extensive and exhaustive development and test process" and their blaming of the problem on "Australian" ECU's which also turned out to be just like their development claim you have to question the reliability and longevity of both the supplier and the engine.

And then promises were broken every single time, there is still no fix and we're almost a year down the track despite the many promises that this was the top priority and a fix is around the corner/next week/2 days away there has to date been no progress, the company that manufactures the unit told me in the early days that the flash counter issues on the MED 9.1 ECU could not be gotten around (despite other companies getting around it fine).

I could go into detail about the problems getting the refund as well but it dragged out for weeks and ended up with trading standards getting involved before I finally received the refund.

And this what I mentioned above, buying a tune you have to look at all the factors and support really is a key one of these and a company can't offer support unless they make money and the only way to make money is to charge more then it costs you after R&D or to cut R&D etc.

Would I buy a cheap tune again? No way, for the power gains you get for the dollars you don't want to skimp on the quality of the tune nor the support. If I have a problem I know that I can get someone on the phone or go and see them, not so easy with a company based overseas who doesn't like dealing with problems.

I've seen the threads and the tone used and I'd suggest that using the WWW to solve or air a consumer dispute was probably not the smartest method of resolution. It is all too easy to become a keyboard warrior and divulge your frustrations on a forum where apparently others who care actually listen and agree in total union. You have every right to do that of course, but who's reputation was actually damaged? Last time I checked, international calls to UK were only a couple of bucks for around 30 mins of talk.

No matter what the product, there will always be something that dosen't go just right and a dissatisfied customer will be born. No product is perfect regardless of price!

I've had this discussion (chip pricing) before, but unfortunately the thread ended up in the black hole due to emotions (and subsequent interpretations) getting out of hand. Mine included.

Before being deleted, that thread did clarify some points relating to local development and support which put the pricing into perspective.

I say choose the level of support you're comfortable with and go from there.
I personally need some bricks & mortar behind the deal.

FWIW - I have no reflash, but the way my questions were handled by Guy @ APR did go a long way to building my appreciation of what happens at a local level.

I believe the APR calibrators from the US are in town right now, but that is for Guy to elaborate on if he chooses.
That can't be a cheap exercise (flights, accomodation, wages, equipment, software + + +), but it is essential R&D for the local market.

I was unaware of this amount of customisation for the local market (I thought someone just emailed some software around, and things got done) and have a lot less issue with the increased price of local flashes now. They are still expensive, obviously, when compared to Bluefin etc.

Once you have said something once there is no need to repeat it with even more emotion. In fact, the more objective facts and the less emotion the better.

Well, we just finished our 11th day straight of calibration - We have 3 APR engineers here (two calibrators & one electrical) and we have the CEO from APR arriving this Friday.

We have been working hard on the twincharger motor, then new Golf 6 motors, the R32's, Audi S5, Audi B8 2.0T with Valve lift, Tiguan, Audi S3 with stage 3, then some extra work on Pirelli edition.

We also will be doing some work on the Passat CC & R36, The A3 1.8TSi motor & we are only 1/2 way through the trip!

It is an expensive exercise. The dyno we have hired & had shipped up from Sydney is worth (with options) the better part of 200k. Flying out 4 APR staff members, accommodating, feeding & looking after them for a month is also not a cheap exercise either.

Anyway - I have another 11 days of 12 hour days before we are finished (so sorry if I am not here to post...)

Over 2k for an upgrade is pretty high but at the prices you guys are able to get ECU upgrades, I'd be there in a flash (excuse the pun).

I don't think there is. I would reckon the freight is for the ECU Upgrades where applicable. You know where the ECU (which is HARDWARE) actually needs replacing and is quite possibly shipped in from OS. Hence Guys comment to "...make the hardware prices more attractive"

Can't imagine ECU remaps which involve no hardware would attract Fr8.

How many cars has Daddy purchased for you now? Isn't the GT TSI just a beater to get to and from uni in so your better cars don't get scratched and dented? And didn't you say that the first tune under $2k for the GT TSI would get your business?
