Would anyone know where in Sydney where i can get the VW extended warranty? I dropped by Mcgrath VW Liverpool to reset my ECU as it was telling me i needed a service when I last serviced it a month (or 2500) ago - all he did was press a few buttons and it was set... back to point... He told me the only places close by that i can purchase the extended warranty was at Five Dock and Parramatta.... is that really true?

Apparently they still havent come to agreements with Allianz to sell the VW extended warranty..

      Ah ... extended warranties.

The reason some dealers won't have them as they are a financial instrument (insurance) so they need the relevant training etc to comply with the laws.

I was also told not to bother buying the warranty until near the end of factory warranty as should the worst happen (write off your car) your insurance doesn't cover the cost of extended warranties. Plus of course if you change your mind or trade it in ....

Really? Which one do you go to? I just rocked up, told the guy my situation, gave hime my keys, he walked up to the car and pressed the hr/min and km buttons (not sure what else) and that was that. "Apparently" its a trial, and if it isnt pushed in the right sequence you can stuff a settings up.......

Edit: Trial as in, something new VW has told services about....

            R32 warranty

i will call around a few and get quotes, as 2200 sounds dear compared to the above cases..

any R32 owners purchase this, and ifso approx cost please?
            Hi Nathan,
Just checked the Allianz system for an R32 5dr DSG warranty...indeed rrp is $2212. Trust me, they can do much better if they really want to. Im positive the costing on the VW is exactly the same as through the Allianz access I have. I cant tell you the cost, as Im sure I would be breaching something with the agreement my workplace has with Allianz or even some confidentiality thing with my work. I imagine VW dealers are maybe less used to discounting(either heavily or otherwise) their products, whether it be cars/accessories or warranties than perhaps my brand of dealership!

              Dealership warranty

              Hi JP2,
There are no hidden factors with either the dealership or factory type warranty....you just have to read the coverage and coverage conditions so you can decide which provides best VALUE for you.
You will need to check the booklet you were given for the exact coverage of the dealership warranty(actually I keep calling it a warranty...in my case and Im sure all other cases its actually not a warranty...its usually called a Mechanical Protection Plan(MPP)...which is different from a warranty as I understand a warranty has better legal and accountability protections for the consumer). But the fact that you need to service with the dealership tells me if its not exactly the same as what I sell(the MPP), its a close variation. If you check the coverage(for the MPP), usually they list specific parts they will cover, whereas the "factory" warranties basically state they cover what the original warranty provider (ie VW in our case) covers. Usually they have a claim limit of $1000, or $2000 per claim, whereas the basics with the factory warranty(if I remember correctly!!) will pay up to the car value. And as you stated you must service the vehicle with the selling dealer. BTW, the dealer actually pays for any repairs under the MPP, and of course they get the benefits of your business with the servicing and any repairs NOT covered by the MPP. Our MPP administrator told me that as long as the car was serviced by us, the customer was indeed free to use anyone else to conduct repairs of parts not covered by the MPP, but of course most ppl would just get the "out of warranty items" fixed by the dealer, enhancing their revenue stream!
Please note I am not knocking the MPP from dealerships. BUT(!!) I would imagine most people hear "warranty" and assume it is the factory/same as factory warranty, granted I disagree with it being advertised as a "warranty" but sales or print/audio advertising. Too many people want to be spoon fed information, and blame others for not doing basic checking of information themselves...but thats another story. The dealership "warranty"(MPP) is good because its cheap/free. But for COMPLETE piece of mind, you have to select a warranty that matches the factory warranty, either the VW (Allianz underwritten either way) or Allianz warranty.

And Nathan, Im sorry I replied to your earlier post without reading the later one! Push them for $1500....1580 is still OK if they wont budge though.

              Hope that doesn't bore anyone....

                  Clarity

                  Sorry all,
I really should read all the posts before I reply!

                  Heres the deal....

Dealer "warranty" or Mechanical Protection Plan (MPP) is not an insurance product. As such the insurers code of conduct, and insurance/finance ombudsman etc has no jurisdiction, and can not influence any disputes/claims (as I understand it...and Im not a lawyer...this is my understanding from my training). You must adhere to the MPP servicing requirements. Im sure they are all the same, those conditions state you must service the car in accordance with manufacturers warranty conditions during the manufacturers warranty (VW service is 12mths or 15000km I understand), and it must be serviced by the MPP issuing dealership. AFTER the factory warranty ends, you must service at the MPP issuing dealership in accordance with the MPP (in our case its every 6mths or 10000km) to retain the "benefits" of the MPP.

Allianz, VW and other "Factory" warranty issuers do issue an insurance product. As such, the employees of the selling "agent"(in our discussion the dealership) must be Tier 2 or Tier 3 trained and certified(I am Tier 2 I think...I cant remember as I did the training over 5 years ago(excluding refreshers)!) Consumers buying insurance products do have protection mechanisms in place if disputes arise. Firstly with the internal dispute resolution system from the insurer, and then the independent body(the ombudsman), and possibly further legal avenues. These warranties also have conditions, but all the ones I have seen simply state you must service the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturers recommended servicing schedule. With these warranties, you DONT have to use VW to service the vehicle. However, the mechanic used must be licensed, and I always advise must use original parts when doing the "handbook service".

As a side, I understand that you can use a non VW dealership/mechanic to service your car under new car warranty and still retain the new car warranty. However, as has been suggested, this may open a whole can of worms on trying to claim under warranty, including strict interpretations of coverage rather than flexible ones, and of course there would be no "good will" after the warranty ends from VW.

I hope this info provides some help...hope it hasnt bored anyone...and of course...I provide this info without "warranty"! Please check the conditions of any warranty you buy before you hand over your cash!!!
