I'm likely to be extending mine close to the end of the original warranty, purely based on the mad scientist engine & gearbox combination I've chosen.
I love em both, but would like the official safety net/support should something go wrong.

Considering the resale within that extended term - are the VW extended warranties transferable?

TINTO,the extended warranties are transferable,as long as you sell the car PRIVATELY.

I am normally against extended warranties in any form, but for a european car I think it is a good insurance policy - lots of things can go wrong in that 3-6 year period that would easily reimburse you for the cost. Also selling a 5 year old car with the extended warranty privately will probably give you some higher resale value as well.

any R32 owners purchase this, and ifso approx cost please?

Was offered $1,580 so think ill be taking it!

I sell extended warranties for another brand of vehicle. Among the brands I sell is Allianz, who I believe underwrites the VW warranty. The price of the warranty can be negotiated with the dealer selling the warranty. I think 2k is a bit too much to pay for the product (Im sure their cost is the same as mine), a price between 1400-1700 I think is reasonable for both the consumer and the dealership. You can buy the warranty anytime up to the end of the new car warranty, and of course normal handbook servicing is required to meet the warranty requirements(but of course all here service their car properly!). If you pay $1500, if you look at it as $500/yr, its a small price to pay..especially considering the cost of the electronics in the car, should any of it fail! I just bought a 2006 TFSI Jetta with 1mth factory warranty remaining so I warranted the car with the Allianz warranty, and I would never purchase a vehicle now without a factory warranty extension(or similar). I have had numerous Astra's(someone else mentioned Astra and repair cost), while not comparing GM with VW, but the electronics(German) are hideously expensive for what the parts are!
The other thing to be careful of is the dealership warranty. The warranty my dealership offers is actually not a warranty, its a "Mechanical Plan". It doesn't cover everything(ie doesnt match the factory coverage) and has a claim limit. We sell the "premium" warranty for about $300, many dealerships throw it in as a "6 year warranty", but the last 3 yrs isn't anywhere near as comprehensive as the factory type.
Just thought I would add my 2c worth.

What is my dealership extension warranty means to me? I was told that bring in your car for service every 6 months, I will get another three-year-long warranty? Are there any hidden factors behind this good looking product? Any advice, please.

Which dealer told you to bring your car in every 6 months?

VW service intervals are 12 months or 15,000k, whichever comes first.

Well, if you get extra warranty on the top of 3 years manufacturer warranty and condition is: the service every 6 months or 7,500km than you have to get it serviced like that but only after 3 years or 100,000km manufacturer warranty is over. See the ACCC website for more details. I have article from MTA magazine about it, will post it when I find it.

On page 7 of the VW New Vehicle Extended Warranty PDS document, under General Conditions, it states

                    1. Service and maintenance of your vehicle
We may not pay your claimif you do not:
                    a. service your vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations ......

I would interpret that as 12 months or 15,000ks even after the 3yrs/100,000ks.

Extended warranties from Allianz or other insurers, may well be 6 months/7500ks for vehicles other than VW New Vehicle Extended.

Don't know I can post the dealer name here. It is located in southern Sydney. I am not sure if there is extra cost involved. I got the paper which may covered some repair works, believe sort of warranty after original 3-year VW factory warranty due. But I need to sign the paper before Picking up my new car. Got the paper at home, haven't have a chance read through it.

                      Cheers, James

Once the manufacturer warranty is over extended warranty applies and if the condition is 6 months or 7,500 km then that's it.
Doesn't matter if it is VW or not you get warranty from somebody, so you have to comply with conditions.
I didn't talk about just Alianz extended warranty but about the warranties in general.

I think (don't rely on this, this is just my opinion) the minimum 6 monthly service interval is only for the dealer extended warranties that get thrown in with your car deal (McGrath Liverpool seem to do it a lot).

If you have the genuine VW extended warranty, then I believe you keep on maintaining this according to the logbook, which is every 15000km / 12 months.

Yes you did say that. But why inject a 6month/7500 argument when the Allianz WV warranty DOES NOT have that condition. All it does is confuse half the audience with something that is not at all relevant.

Did he say Allianz or VW extended warranty?
I don't think so. Not even word about VW extended warranty.
At least "half the audience" now can see the difference, don't you think?
And what about if that dealership offers another different extended warranty with different conditions?
And finally I hope that they send us the notice when they change the condition or change from Allianz to different company.
My point here is - always read the contract.
