Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

the only gauges i like are the newsouth ones. why should i sacrifice a vent for a gauge?

one other thing thats annoying is the double locking of the doors.
    I'm selling my VR6

the OSIR gauge holder still has holes on it for airflow.

don't know how good that is tho as i haven't play with one.

mikinoz, where did you source your OSIR holder from and how much?

      thanks

OSIR still allows airflow. It is directed a good direction to so not to be annoying and in your face. As we have a smaller gauge air slips past the ring for the larger gauge also.

It is the most OEM look pod I have seen. Reality is, they are cosmetic more than functional in the TDI but it is fun to have and see it ping 30 on short blasts.

I bought my pod from Ian at Rennenhaus - let him know Mick sent you.

What double locking of doors? You press the button to lock the doors and they all lock.

im obviously biased but I think the VMR gauge is the neatest looking on the market. Its small and inoffensive. Its also cheap!

It keeps my girlfriend entertained for hours!

If you mean the unlock driver's door/unlock other doors 'two step', that setting can be changed on the MFD (I think), just like the 'doors lock when speed exceeds 15kmh' (useful depending on your neighbourhood...). Pity VW won't let you change all the CPU mappings so easily...

Er . . no, but it would be reassuring to see the guage move ever so slightly to the warmer side on 40 degree days.

That would mean your cooling system is stuffed!

You mean when one of the idiot lights light up? By that time it's too late!
No the temperature gauge will move before it warns you, it's not too late at that point but you should act when the warning occurs.

                        You're talking about something else.

The original question was about about double presses to lock which doesn't occur. I suspect that the question was supposed to be about the two presses to unlock all doors.

The two stage unlocking can be turned off and on via the MFD but earlier models without the MFD can have the dealer do this (or someone with VAGCOM/VCDS)

If you lock the doors either through the autolock or manually when you go to open the doors the first handle pull unlocks the door and the second opens the door. If you are using autolock the doors will unlock when you remove the key from the ignition or you can press the unlock button next the drivers handle.

Again you can set autolock in the MFD or via the dealer.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the "clever" Vag engineers have put a software fiddle into the controller for the temperature gauge to make it always display right on 90C even when the actual coolant temperature is a few degrees above or below 90C. So the gauge does act a bit like an idiot light - nothing to see until it is outside the design temperature range.

Some nonsense about it being more "reassuring" to us customers or somesuch. IMHO it is more like the annoying deliberate inaccuracy designed into the speedo so it always reads a bit fast

In this case " reassuring" means "lying", plain and simple. The temp guage and speedo should really be set to indicate more accurately than they do.
